A great everyday, affordable watch that's built to last

When I was looking for a new watch at the start of the year, I came across several that I liked and found it hard to decide which one to go for. Fortunately, I managed to snap up my favourite on ebay for just £2.04, so I felt completely guiltless about choosing a second! The ebay watch (also Oasis), was quite smart and metallic, so I thought I'd go for a more casual style to cover all my bases. I love accessorising with bold colours, red in particular, and the vivid shade of this watch really made it stand out. Plus, it had a strap, rather than a bracelet, and having small wrists, I like watches which I can adjust to fit myself. And all this for only £15!

The watch came in a pretty little box- black, with a cream lid decorated with a black, floral pattern. It was so nice, I kept it and it's come in very handy for storing little bits and bobs! The watch itself also looked really good; I always find buying online a bit risky as colours can look very different when photographed, but in this case, the blood red shade was exactly what I'd hoped for. I'd had to look at a few photos online to try to get an impression of the type of leather the strap was made from- in some pics (the one above, for instance), it looks like it's suede, but it's actually made from shiny, smooth leather. I far prefer this, as there's something about the feeling of suede on skin that I can't stand!

This smooth, leather watch strap, is flexible and comfortable to wear, without compromising durability and strength. The 6 holes in the strap cover about 1.5 inches, making this watch suitable for quite a range of wrist sizes. Being small, I often have to punch extra holes in fastenings like this, but not with this watch- on the smallest setting, it fits my wrist snugly, but I tend to fasten it with the next hole as I prefer it to be a bit loose. The unused section of the watch strap is easy to keep in place with two leather loops (one fixed, one moveable) to tuck it into.

At just over 2cm, the strap is fairly wide, a style that I'd usually avoid as chunky accessories tend to swamp me! This watch looks fine, however, thanks to its double plaited design. The two thin plaits run parallel to each other from the face to the buckle, so that the skin of your wrist shows through when you're wearing the watch. This gives it a more delicate, feminine appearance than you'd get with a solid strap of that width, and also adds interest to what would otherwise be quite a plain, chunky watch.

The metallic parts of the watch are silver in colour, and the watch's back states that it has a 'stainless steel caseback' and a 'base metal bezel'. All the metal parts (buckle, bezel, caseback and hands) look exactly the same shade of shiny silver, however, and they're all durable and scratch-free. The silver colour contrasts nicely with the bold red of the strap.

The face of the watch is slightly rectangular, and its generous size means that you don't have to squint at it. It's metallic, but not shiny like the bezel- it's pale grey, and has an almost pearlescent look to it. This means that the shiny silver markers and hands are easily distinguishable from it. The watch has a second hand, which is always a handy (ha ha) addition. Four little dashes serve as the markers, one at each quarter hour. This makes the time fairly easy to read, although you'll have to make an educated guess at the exact minute! Under the hour marker, there's a small, subtle 'Oasis' logo, also in silver (the buckle bears the same logo engraved on it). All in all, it's a very simple, clean watch face, that could look quite stark if it wasn't for the bright, plaited strap that adjoins it. The two combined, however, make for an interesting looking watch that will brighten up a casual outfit without being OTT.

Functionally, I've had no problems with this watch. It's withstood the odd splashing, and looks pretty much brand new despite all the wear I've had out of it over the last 6 months. The leather hasn't worn at all, and the metallic parts are as shiny as ever! I've not had to change the battery yet either. It's easy to adjust the time- the watch stem pops out easily when you pull it, but it's secure enough to stay put when it's on your wrist.

I'm really glad I bought this watch- it's proved to be reliable and durable, but is comfy to wear and easy to adjust. It also looks great, and its colour has spruced up many a dull outfit! The plaited strap is a nice touch, and keeps the watch from looking bulky. The only slight drawback is that the bold colour can clash with other colourful clothes, so I wouldn't buy this as your only watch, as you'll have to limit your wardrobe or go watchless! Still, as it's such great value for money, buying a second watch won't be a problem!
