I go through phases of when I love to wear watches and then I go through phases where I hate watches but during my wearing phase I tend to buy a couple that I like and a few years back I really wanted a bright watch and that was when I came across this, I had been looking longingly at the Ice Watches but at the time I couldn't afford one (I have one now though) so I thought this would be a great alternative which it was. I bought it in a shocking pink colour which I absolutely love and I wore it quite a lot that summer.
The watch is all plastic even the strap but it looks like a metal link strap (but obviously in pink plastic) the clasp is also plastic.
To set the time you just pull out the pin on the side, turn the little dial until the hands are at the correct time and them push the pin back in until it clicks. It keeps the time very well and is still working just fine now.
This is a fab watch for everyday wear and being cheap and plastic it doesn't show any wear and doesn't easily get marked if knocked about. I really like this watch but at the moment I am going through my "I don't need to wear a watch" phase so it resides in the drawer with the rest of my watches. I will wear it again someday and it still looks like new so it was a £14.99 bargain!
Thanks for reading.
I have a couple of Ice watches which are funky plastic watches in bright neon colours. I absolutely love them but they cost in the region of £60 each so cost too much for me to be able to buy them in every colour like I would like.
I was in town and whilst walking past H. Samuel some bright neon watches caught my eye in the window. I initially thought that they were actually Ice watches but it turns out they are made by the ladies high street brand Oasis. Now I am a man and not generally known to wear ladies items but these watches looked identical to the much more expensive Ice watches I won so I went in to have a look.
Up close the resemblance to the more expensive plastic watches that are everywhere at the moment was uncanny and they didn't look feminine in the slightest. In fact the face is on the large side for a ladies watch so I decided to buy one. I was too embarrassed to buy it in the shop so I ordered myself one online. It cost me £19.99 from the H. Samuel website but I could have sworn it was cheaper in the shop but I've never had a chance to pop back in and look.
The watch is made from plastic and has individual links so that it can be adjusted to size. As mentioned the face of the watch is large and quite big for what is supposed to be a ladies watch. The face is round and raised from the watch.
The quality of the watch is good and there is no difference in the thickness of the plastic as opposed to my Ice watches.
Luckily the bracelet was big enough for my wrist and was a comfortable fit but if it's too big or small you can either remove a link or add one.
The neon colour is really bright and vivid and perfect for summer. Neon watches are really fashionable at the minute and this watch really does stand out. There is no way to differentiate this watch from the more expensive one's unless you get really close and see the Oasis name on the face but this is quite small and hard to see unless you are right up at it.
It is also supposed to be splash proof but I actually wore this to the beach and went in the sea and forgot to remove it and thought it would be ruined but it still worked absolutely fine and no water entered the face.
The watch also is a quartz movement and will need it's battery changed eventually but I haven't had it long enough yet to have to do this.
If you are wanting a funky neon plastic watch but don't want to pay the expensive prices of the Ice watches then this watch by Oasis is just as good and looks the part without the price tag.
I really wanted a bright pink watch and I had been looking at the ice watches that are in the windows of all the jewellers in my town and lusting after them but as I was trying to save some money and I have way too many watches as it is I kept myself to looking. I then seen the oasis sports watches in my local H Samuel's window and they caught my eye immediately due to their bright colours.
When I went to have a closer look and seen they were only £14.99 I thought it was a sign I should get one.
I originally wanted red but actually decided on the yellow version as it was the most eye catching. I knew for £14.99 I wasn't expecting anything of spectacular quality so I was surprised there wasn't really a great difference in looks between these ones and the more expensive ones beside it.
The watch is a traditional bracelet design with a round face and is very chunky and large looking. It is made from a plastic resin except the winder and clasp which is a silver coloured metal. Now plastic may sound like a cheap material for a watch and of course it is hence why this is £14.99 but the other bright sports watches I have seen are also made from plastic and are retailing from £50 onwards so this is probably just as good quality as them.
The bracelet has links so can be adjusted to size and unless you are very lucky you will probably have to do this as it is a large fit originally. This only takes a couple of seconds and H Samuel did it free of charge for me.
On my wrist the watch is extremely comfortable which was surprising considering it is so big and chunky and I like the feel of the plastic against my skin instead of metal or leather for a change.
The colour is really vivid and whilst it won't be to everyone's taste personally I love it. It is also available in a few other colours which are just as bright and noticeable and I definitely think I am going to get a couple more of them.
The links do have a habit of attracting grime but being plasti it is easy to keep clean and only needs a wipe down. Also I have managed to scratch it a little but because it is so bright these are not noticeable unless you look really closely at it.
A fun little feature the watch has is that the face can be twisted round to become a timer which I like and thought it was a good thing to be included on such a cheap watch.
The only problem I have had with it is that the battery stopped only a week after buying it but when I took it back they replaced it with a new one for free and told me they had never had that problem before and it seems to be fine now and keeping almost perfect time.
I really like this watch and for the money I think it is a real bargain as they are extremely fashionable and stylish at the minute and this one is so much cheaper than similar ones that are all over the high street.
I recently decided that my old watch was far too battered, and asked for a new one for my birthday. Specifically I wanted a brightly-coloured, chunky sports watch which seem to be all over the place at the moment. When I spotted this watch in the window of H. Samuel I decided it was a perfect match - not only was it my favourite teal colour, but it was significantly cheaper than other brands whilst looking exactly the same.
As I was in a shopping centre at the time containing an Oasis store, I popped in to see if the price was the same there. Shockingly it was £20, at £20 rather than £15, so it's worth checking H. Samuel first if you're after a watch like this. Compared to the £40-50 of other brands, this seemed like a good deal.
The watch itself, as you can see in the picture above, is made entirely of plastic (besides of course the hands, winder and clasp). When I bought it, the strap was too long, which is another advantage as H. Samuel were able to remove a link whereas Oasis could not as it comes in a plastic package there. I really hate when watches slip down my arm, preferring them to be over-tight if anything, so I am pleased that this feels comfortable as I wear it and not too loose.
Another huge plus point for me is that the face has a twist-around timer disc. I had this on an old watch of mine and found it really helpful when cooking without an oven timer, timing certain beauty regimens etc so I was pleased to have it back.
The watch feels sturdy and, having now worn it for around three months, has only light superficial scratching on the face, which is anyway only seen in certain light. Considering I do a lot of outside work and sports, this is pretty good. I will say, though, that the strap somehow manages to attract grime at an alarming rate and in between the links often needs cleaning out with a cotton bud, although of course if you spend less time around grubby horses than I do this wouldn't be such a big deal!
My only other gripe, besides the fact that the face can look really bulky under certain sleeves (but that's to be expected from any brand for this style) is that the ticking is very loud. VERY loud. I am quite sensitive to the noise but somehow got used to it, still I do find it quite annoying at times when I am trying to read or study. I have actually had people comment on how loud it is - I really don't think other people should be able to hear my watch!
Loud ticking aside, this watch is really good for the price. It keeps time perfectly and honestly looks just the same as watches from other brands which cost a lot more. For me it's ideal because I don't like expensive watches - they will only get scratched up quickly around me! So if you're looking for a bargain, stylish, sporty-looking watch, you could do much worse than check this out. There is quite a wide, bright, colour range including the pictured blue, my teal, yellow and pink to my memory, plus I'm sure others.
