      A novelty watch pendent

For a long time (before it got insanely popular) I have loved anything with owls on. It has got to be a bit of an obsession now especially as there are so many great products available at the minute. When randomly browsing on Amazon one day, I came across this Owl Watch Pendent. I don't ever wear a real watch although I have a lovely one because I always forget to put it on. This seemed like a really cute piece of jewellery and one that would be quite practical at the same time.

As I said, I found this on Amazon and at the minute it is the fantastic price of £3.59. The pendent comes in both gold and silver so if like me, you generally only wear silver or white gold, you get to pick which one you prefer. I didn't like the look of the gold version too much but only because the feather design on the front is more noticeable than on the silver because it is black in colour. The actual size of the owl is 3.5cm x 2.6cm but most of this is taken up by the watch in the middle. You also get a really nice length of chain when you buy this product which measures at 29cm.

The owl itself is extremely cute and looks great when wearing it against a dark coloured top so it stands out well. The face of the owl has big round, white eyes and tiny pointy ears while the wings/ feathers are what cover up the watch face. The wings span outwards and open up in order to show the watch face which I thought was a great idea as it make the owl look more realistic. The watch face is mostly white with black numbers. The numbers are nice and clear as they are quite large and the hands on the watch are also easy to see without being confused about what time it is. However, as this pendent hangs down, I do feel that the numbers are the wrong way. When you pull the pendent up to look at the time, everything is back to front.

This watch runs by a simple watch battery so it is extremely easy to replace once it runs out. I did find that the one supplied didn't last very long at all but then what else can you expect at this kind of price? Also, the chain isn't of the best quality but if you really wanted to, you could easily get another in stainless steel or silver which would match easily and not look much different in comparison to the original chain supplied.

Overall, this is a lovely pendent at a great price!

nice pendant let down by a cheap chain

Have you noticed that few people seem to wear a watch any more? I think that it is because everyone carries a mobile phone these days. The problem with mobile phones is that they are stuck in the bottom of bags and you need to root around to find them. I have become a big fan of pendant watches over the past year or so and one of my more recent purchases was the silver owl necklace which I bought from Amazon for around a fiver including postage and packaging.

Owls are all the rage these days with very many items of clothing and accesories having an owl design. It was this cuteness factor which drew me to this pendant watch and I was not to be disappointed. The watch is 3.5 cm tall with around 2.5cm of that being the watch part. The owl is very cute, the stainless steel of the watch has a few nice wee carvings on the wings and for the eyes. The cute little ears stick out of the top of the owl's head. The wings slide open to reveal the clock face, an operation which can be a bit fiddly, especially when the watch is around your neck.

The watch face has nice and clear black numerals which stand out against the white background. The second hand moves around the face of the watch nice and smoothly and quietly so the watch makes no ticking sound. The hands have enough of a difference in length between them that you can tell with a quick glance which watch is which. It should be noted that when you are reading the watch when you are wearing the necklace that you are looking at the clock face upside down, even though the numbers are small I still find it easy to tell the time this way with only a quick glance.

What I don't like about this watch is the chain, it is also made of stainless steel but instead of being a normal jewellery chain it is the type of chain that looks and feels light and cheap, in fact it is identical to the chain that attaches to the plug on my kitchen sink! The chain is a good length at 29cm or 11.4 inches. I don't like short necklaces and this one sits around my bust line.

The watch is powered by a small watch sized battery, the battery supplied ran out within a few weeks but it was easy to change. I can't remember what size the battery is but you can buy packs of assorted button cell batteries in Poundland and one in the pack was the right size.

The owl pendant necklace is cute and quirky but it is not one of my favourites. It is suitable for daytime wear but due to the character design and cheap metal chain it is perhaps better for a teenager rather than an adult. At around £5 it is still a good buy for a fun and funky and practical accessory.
