Swatch Color the Sky GS124
Advantages: funky design, comfortable to wear
Disadvantages: annoying ticking when not being worn
I have owned a Swatch watch since I was a teenager, and that's a long time ago, let me tell you! I would not be without one. They are extremely hard wearing and long lasting - not to mention fun and funky!
My last Swatch watch gave up the ghost on me last year. It kept perfect time for ages, went through numerous battery changes without hiccup, then finally decided it didn't like being taken on a plane. Everytime I travelled abroad it would stop the minute I took off and start again sometime after landing. Weird.
So I eventually decided I would need to retire it and find something new. I searched for ages for the perfect Swatch. Up until then I had always opted for the child's size watch, having very small wrists. But all the children's sized ones around at the moment are very definately 'children's designs. Then I found 'colour the sky' and decided to be grown up and have this one. I love it! Although it still looks a little big on my wrist I am getting used to the size.
The watch has a strap made of plastic with rainbow coloured stripes that aren't uniform and have different shades of red and green. It is very flexible and very comfortable to wear. This is the least durable part of the Swatch watch, however, as I have sometimes needed to replace the strap, but the watch itself rarely goes wrong (the exception being as stated above).
This design continues on to the face of the watch. The numbers on the face are quite large and white, so they can be seen very easily. The font of the numbers is quite funky too, as the numbers are also not uniform but look more like they have been written there by hand. The numbers 12, 3, 6 and 9 are slightly bigger than the others.
The hands are white also and each hand has a circle at the end of it. There is a second hand which ticks as it moves on it's jerky path around the watch. This ticking is the only slightly annoying feature of the watch. I don't hear it when I'm wearing the watch but it is really noticable when I take it off of an evening and put it down on a table. I usually end up flinging it somewhere so I can't hear it.
The face of the watch and it's mechanisms are encased in plastic, thus making it completely waterproof. This is one of the main reasons I love Swatch watches. I have worn them in the swimming pool and in the sea and have never had any problems with them.
This is a great watch and I'm glad I bought it. If you are considering one, then shop around the Internet. In the shops, duty free shops and abroad they retail at about £40, I paid £30 for mine.
Summary: Great watch
