Swatch Color the Sky GS124
Advantages: Good casual holiday watch
Disadvantages: Can give tan lines if switching to an evening watch
I have several Swatch watches as I feel they are well made and stand up to a lot of wear and tear. I bought this one a few years ago at the airport as I wanted a watch I could wear on holiday and take into the water with me. Although these watches make no claims to be waterproof at depth I have been diving with them without any issues.
Well if you are shy and retiring this watch probably isnt for you as it is cetainly eye- catching with its colourful stripes. As the stripes are not uniform and have a look of being painted on this makes it an atrractive casual watch. I found that having several colours on it meant it suited my summer holiday wardrobe very well. The other advantage of being quite bright is that it is relatively easy to spot if your mislay it somewhere. The last thing you want on the beach is a sand coloured watch! The strap is plastic but comfortable to wear. I have very small wrists but the smallest setting fits me well. The watch is sold as unisex but I would suggest trying it on for size if you are a man with large wrists to make sure it fits. The watch face is quite large in comparasion with typical ladies watches with a striped background and the numbers in white font with the 12, 3, 6 and 9 all being slightly larger than the other numbers. The hands are white with a second hand. The minute hand and hour hand both end with white circles with the minute hand having a blue dot as well. The bluckle and watch surrouns are both pale blue plastic.
As I meantioned early this is a great watch for holidays as you can swim with it on with no problem and can even dive with it. Obviously if you do a lot of diving you should invest in a dive computer but is a novice or just doing your Padi course then this should be ok for you. I should add that this is just my own experience as the watch is sold as water resistant and not waterproof. The face is quite large so my only disadvantage with using it on holiday is that you can develop a tan line if you switch to a smaller dress watch for the evenings. Of course having a large watch face does make it easy to read. This might come in handy if you were glasses but dont have prescription sunglasses.
I have had this watch for a few years and it has been through some rough treatment with me and survived fairly well. Unlike other watches the buckle still works well and the strap hasnt fallen apart although there is some cracking now of the first thin layer of plastic that covers the watch strap. Despite this I would certainly recommend it as a good holiday watch. I cant recall what I paid for it although it was bought duty free however it currently retails in the swatch online shop for £38 which perhaps looks high for a plastic watch but it will last much better than cheaper alternatives.
Summary: Great watch for beach holidays
