“ Brand: Swatch / Watch for: Men „
As I have such a varied collection of Swatch timepieces it takes something a bit different to catch my attention with their new designs. Whilst looking to treat myself I came across the Swatch 'Jungle Joy' watch, which is a unisex black dial watch and immediately caught my eye with its colour and design.
The first thing that caught my eye about this watch was the orange moulded silicon rubber strap against the deeply contrasting glossy black dial. The buckle and bezel are aluminium, which add another dimension to the design, and the dial itself is worth paying closer attention to. The hours are marked with numbers inscribed in italics and the outer black band of the dial surrounds a splash of orange in the form of a band of colour. The second hand is also orange, with the minute and hour hands in aluminium.
Each Swatch watch is unique, and this is the big selling point for me. Priced at around £50 the Jungle Joy design isn't one which you may buy as a gift, more a collectors' item. The watch comes in an Official Swatch presentation box, with the Swatch 2 year guarantee and instruction manual. I find Swatch watches very robust in their construction, and although I do own them to admire their sheer beauty and to grow my collection further, I also love to wear them now and again.
Water resistant to 30m this watch is intended for its style and basic function, but certainly one for the collector rather than the watch wearer. I think the pricing does have to cost the watch one star, but if you love Swatch timepieces then you won't be left disappointed with the Jungle Joy.
Can men really get away with orange. This item has sat in a draw for a rather long period of time and has yet to see the light of day. No tell a lie, it has come out once and that was on a trip to a club in London, where the colour orange sort of worked with my bright outfit. We shall not go into that on here! I like bright things on the whole and I have always been drawn to Swatch watches because they are a bit off the wall and quirky. That is possibly why I had this one bought for me.
The watch came presented in a little case which was jolly and the craftsmanship is good, with a robust design and solid features. I have small wrists, very small, smaller than your average girl, but we won't go into that on here! The generous holes just about covered the reach that I needed from the watch to wrap around the wrist. It clings tightly and the material would probably allow you to drill another hole if needed. It has a rubbery plastic feel to it and is quite pliable.
The clock face is how I like them, old fashioned and easy to read numericals. The face is more appealing than the strap and the black face actually works well with the oranges, creating a European feel to the watch. I can imagine wearing it in the Netherlands or Malta perhaps. This watch would work well for holidays actually and now I have just realised on what occasions I could actually wear it, while writing this review, bravo!
The features might be basic, but mine is still ticking away in a draw and the setting up procedure is straight forward enough, so I have no complaints there. It comes with a month's guarantee, whereas I feel a six month guarantee would be more reflective of the price. I shall wait for the holiday season and attempt to use it again.
