If you have been reading my reviews over the past year or so you will be aware I am a collector and big fan of the Swatch brand. I have a not insignificant collection of Swatch timepieces and generally the vast majority are the typical Swatch example with blacktic body and crazy design, all masterfully constructed of course. The Swatch 'Get Fly Back' watch is a gents timepiece and if you are familiar with the Swatch brand you will knwo that this design doesn't follow their general outline when it comes to design.
The Swatch 'Get Fly Back' watch has a steel bracelet strap with fold over clasp for added security. The case is also of steel construction and is round in shape. The background of the dial is black and as it has the chronograph feature this means there are three individual dials in addition to the traditional second, minute and hour hands. The Quartz movement is typical of Swatch and the overall feel to the 'Get Fly Back' is one of exquisite attention to detail and quality.
The strap of the 'Get Fly Back' has a brushed steel finish to it and the bracelet is fully adjustable. I have had a couple of links removed from the watch as I have very slim wrists - especially for a bloke! For finer adjustment you can adjust the clasp aswell, this is best done by a jeweller, though, as it can be fiddly. I like the clasp system as it is very easy to use and there is a fold over catch which ensures your watch won't go anywhere once it is on.
The watch is water resistant ( NOT water proof) to 30m and comes with the 2 year Swatch Guarantee as standard. The watch is also supplied in a smart presentation case, making it ideal to give as a gift or for safe storage. Priced at £125 it is a fairly luxurious watch and isn't something I would choose to wear to work or the pub! Generally Swatch watches are much more reasonably priced, but the 'Get Fly Back' watch is a little bit special with its chronograph feature and the steel construction.
This chronograph watch has a stopwatch which is simple to operate and clear to see. The watch has a button above and below the 'timesetting' knob and these activate and reset the functions on the chronograph face of the watch. The centre button is a little trickier to operate as it is used to set the time, simply pulling it outwards allows you to set the time. The top button sets the stopwatch running and the lower of the three inner dials record seconds. I think the stopwatch is a good feature to have, but if you are looking to use this watch to time things then I would recommend a sports style watch, as the stopwatch isn't really as clear as it could be. I also think that stopwatched on non-digital watches are a bit pointless. The rotating bezel isnt a feature I really use or even understand, but the motion is smooth and rotating bezels are commonplace on such watches.
If you are looking for a smart watch for special occassions then the Swatch 'Get Fly Back' could be just the watch for you. The watch is robust and has some weight to it and the quality feel and look is reassuring for this kind of money. A price worth paying, perhaps not if you aren't familiar with the Swatch brand or appreciate their unique styling, but for a fanatic like myself the 'Get Fly Back' is a must!
