Tag Heuer are a Swiss company the specialises in sports watches and chronographs, and has been producing luxury timepieces since 1860. As a luxury brand it has a multitude of celebrity endorsements from Hollywood stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon (who sported a Link Chronograph throughout the Bourne series of films) and in sport with luminaries as Tiger Woods and McLaren Formula 1 racing drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.
I have owned the Link chronograph for around five years now having treated myself to one.Water resistant upto 200 metres, quartz movement, it also has elapsed and total time chronograph functions with split seconds and total consecutive times register.
The bracelet is made from steel with a double safety clasp and folding buckle. Construsted using the trademark 'S' link, it has a satin finished. The glass watch face is a scratch resistant sapphire crystal measuring around an inch in diameter. The ergonomic design ofthe bracelet blends beautifully into the watch face allowing a very sleek yet muscular design which creates the iconic Link watch.
Now in five years it has not lost time and has given me no cause for concern. The only issue I have had is that it has required a new battery. This cannot be done by just your local jeweller, instead it must be serviced by a certified technician so that the waterproof seal can be left intact.
Given the materials it is made from it is a weighty piece and you'll always know it is there. But rather than being a complaint, I find this quite reassuring. Perhaps the only problem I have with it's construction is the bezel. It can get rather stiff to pull out if you need to make alterations, but again a minor issue.
Of course the main issue you may have is the price with most models in this range starting from around £1000. How can I justify the cost, even if it does last a lifetime, I very much doubt that anyone would spend that amount on any number of watches through their lives. In short I can't. It's an extravagance. Something totreat yourself or a loved one with. I'm a sucker for a celebrity endorsement as well which helps, but when I look at mine I don't think of how much it cost, more the quality which gives me enjoyment. And the reassurance that it'll be on my wrist for a good while yet.
