An effortless blend of Prestige, performance and avant-garde technology: these keywords define TAG Heuer's philosophy in creating its iconic watches.
When I turned 30 a few years ago now my husband bought me a Tag watch, something I will wear and treasure for many years to come. I love the classic and stylish look of it and think it looks really lovely on my wrist.
The Tag Heuer watch I have is the ladies Aquaracer which is a silver, stainless steel watch. It costs in the £1,000 mark so it is a pricey watch but with care and regular cleaning and service I believe this watch will last for a lifetime. What I like about this watch is that its not flashy, you can wear it dressed down with jeans or you can wear it out in the evening but it still looks perfect in both settings, an unstated classic look.
According to an article I read, "TAG Heuer traces its roots to 1860 when Edouard Heuer founded Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG (English: Heuer Watchmaking Inc.) in St-Imier, Switzerland. Edouard Heuer patented his first chronograph in 1882 and in 1887 patented an 'oscillating pinion' still used by major watchmakers of mechanical chronographs."
This particular watch is based on the design and features of the timeless 2000 series launched in 1982. The face of the watch is mother of pearl and has a lovely sheen to it. The only number on this watch is the 12 at the top of the face and then there are just little marks for the hours and smaller marks for the minutes. The 12 is made out of silver as are the little hour marks which also have some mother of pearl on the inside of them. The hour hand, minute hand and second hand are also made out of silver and are very shiny and striking. There is a little Tag Heuer emblem at the top of the watch under the 12 to let you know that it is authentic.
The watch has a date function which just shows the number of the day, not the actual day but that is all you need and I like this as its a quick reference when you need to know that date quickly. The date will move everyday automatically and the number will go up to 31 so when there are only 30 days in the month you will need to change the date yourself as it will not recognise this. To move the date is easy. There is a little dial on the side of the watch. To release it you just screw it towards you and then press it in slightly and pull it out once to be able to change the date. IF you need to change the time on your watch you pull this dial out to the second stage and then can change the time. In oder to put the dial back in place you just twist it in the other way and press on it slightly and make sure it is in firmly.
The wrist band on this watch is stainless steel also has has an alternating polished and matt steel which I think gives it that extra bit of style. THe watch fastens with a clip fastening that you need to shut one way and then clip into the other side. To release the watch you pull up a little tab and it comes apart quite easily although is strong and will not come apart without your help. If the watch is too tight or too loose when you purchase it you can have links removed in the wrist band in order for it to fit properly and I think I needed two of these taken out as I have little wrists.
Yes, the metal on this watch will scratch but you can have this buffed up. I have had this watch for 4 years now and I have only just had to replace the battery in the watch. I took it to the jeweller that my husband bought it from and they send it away to Tag to be done properly. Be prepared, a service on this watch is very expensive. If you just want the battery changed it costs about £70 but of course when it was sent away for this they also informed me I needed it serviced too (of course they did) which meant getting the mechanisms cleaned etc but I was happy for them to do it to keep it working properly and in guarantee however it did costs me over £200, eek, but it came back in perfect working order with the correct date and looking very shiny.
This is a beautiful classic timepiece and one I will be wearing for a long time.
