For twenty years I worked in a job with a computer on my desk so never needed or wore a watch. A career change into teaching would change that. I knew I needed a watch that was easy to see the time on, stayed still on my wrist, kept good time and could be easily adjusted.
After hunting a few watch store I came across this Timex. Certainly the numbers are very clear and the large face makes it easy to see quickly what the time is. It also has the added bonus of a light up face. So I bought it 4 years ago.
Based on 4 years of constant term time use in temperatures that vary from way too hot to unexpectedly cold and everything in between, I can safely say it's an excellent watch. In that time I have had no problems at all with it's accuracy and have only ever altered the time when the school bell times change after a holiday. The face continues to be very easy to read and I have noticed no scratches or wearing on the face. I don't have sensitive skin so I cannot comment fully but I have had no problems with rashes or skin irritation from constant use in school.
Changing the time on the watch is very straightforward. Pull out the time change button on the side and turn it until the hands are in the correct position. The watch also has a second hand which makes it great for timing short activities. As it is not a digital watch, your time set will not be precise, but it will be accurate and as I mentioned before, remain so for an extended period.
OK so I've never used the glow in the dark face in school but I can confirm it does work as I keep the watch by my bed and have used it on occasion at night. This function is very easy to use, just press in the time change button. During the day, it does not interfere with the watch at all but from certain angles, the face does take on a very slight green tinge.
After 4 years of wear, the only problem I have is that the strap is getting a bit worn in places. I realise as writing the review that the watch is probably battery powered but I have had no need to change that yet so clearly there is a long battery life.
Style wise, the watch has a big face and a black leather strap so is perhaps not suited to a delicate wrist and certainly not for a dressy occasion. It basically looks like what it is, a reliable and functional watch.
I would not hesitate to recommend this watch to anyone.
I've always found overly-technical, flashy watches with digital numbers lighting up in a host of different colours ill-suited and designed exclusively for the younger generation - yet a lot of them are priced so highly. Instead I tend to go for the simplistic, traditional style of watch like the 'Timex T2H331' here which operates easily and is clear in its showing of the time. The watch may not have a mass of interesting features built into its frame, but that's not what this product is about.
The looks will not suit everyone, and it has to be said that you could easily mistake this device for many others, but I don't mind that. It's an everyday watch with practicality. The hands are correctly lengthened and appear bolder than the numeric values which are scribed in a traditional looking font similar to that of Times New Roman. The second hand is faded but not so that someone with bad eye-sight couldn't make it out clearly, however the small 'date gate' containing a number between 1 and 31 could be misread. But then again this does add a secondary piece of information some people find critical even in a simple watch. the whole device is powered by a single standard watch battery, though it is advised in the manual that this is replaced by a professionally when it finally dies - probably after 5 or so years.
The feel of the materials used is great. It is very high quality and in that, durable. I can see the strap lasting many years, and at the 'weaker' connectors with which the watch head and straps are joined, the device feels strong. This is a typical area of the watch which is prone to failure, but I feel Timex have done a good job in minimalising that risk.
The comfort of the device is excellent. Some watches have been prone to cause rashes, and with me this is usually down to rubber straps. The Timex utilises a waterproof coated material strap which I have had no trouble with, which is great. Similarly, the back of the main part of the watch is smoothly integrated into the strap making sure this part of the device is also comfortable. Sweat doesn't seem to build on the inside of the watch either, making it as pleasant to wear as possible.
The buckle which joins the two halves of the strap in the centre back is made from aluminium as with the front casing, and this material seems to work excellently in providing a smart yet durable finish. The number of wholes in the fabric for the metal to adjoin is good and the watch will therefore fit all wrist sizes.
Overall, I find this watch extremely helpful and comfortable to wear. After having it on for an hour you completely forget it's there. But as with all watches, eventually the pattern of checking your wrist rather than a nearby wall clock or phone heightens, and eventually it becomes a common occurrence throughout the day.
A watch I thoroughly recommend to people of all ages who can bear to only have two pieces of informative and crucial information in view at any one time! Great!
