Advantages: classic and reliable watch

Disadvantages: none

For the past three years this watch has been my faithful companion through life's rich tapestry, I barely take it off.

I bought it when very heavily pregnant as I wanted to treat myself to something, and at that point shoes or clothes weren't really an option! At the time it was just under £100 from the High Street, and it still seems to be available at about that price from Amazon amongst other online retailers.

I hadn't heard of Tissot watches before when I bought the watch, it just seemed like better value than some of the other Swiss watches on offer, but actually I have found this watch to be excellent, reliable and also with nice features for the price. It came in a very fancy box, complete with a 2 year guarantee and a book about the history of Tissot, who have been making watches for 150 years or so.

As you can see from the photo this is a plain looking watch with a nice clear face. The hands are luminous in the dark- which is a useful feature for me as I am often disturbed at various points in the night.

The date display is fairly easily changed by pulling out the winder slightly, as you would expect these days it is a battery operated watch - I found my battery lasted just under 3 years. Once the battery does need changing you can get it changed on the High Street - however only sending it to Tissot will ensure that the battery is changed to preserve the waterproof aspect of the watch, which is waterproof to 50 metres. I didn't get the battery changed at the manufacturer as I needed my watch that day, so I no longer risk wearing it when swimming, but I used to, with no problems.

This watch is tough as well as, in my opinion, being good looking in a classic sort of way. Like I said earlier I wear it all the time, but after three years or so there is not a single scratch on the crystal glass face, and the stainless steel bracelet, whilst having a slight patina on it from wear is also in great condition.

Talking of the bracelet, it is adjustable from the snap clasp but also comes with extra links which your jeweller should be able to add if necessary. I actually got a link removed after a few months of ownership as it turned out that my wrists had been rather larger than normal at the time of purchase, as well as the rest of me. As I said before I wear this watch pretty continuously, and find it really comfortable. You can't hear it ticking, and the movement of the second hand is quite smooth, and most importantly it keeps good time, it has a quartz movement.

The PR50 is available in slightly different face designs and also in Titanium, which is lighter than my stainless steel model. Having tried my brother in law's man's PR50 watch which is titanium in my hand, it is suprisingly light and if I were buying this again I might try to stretch to the slightly more expensive titanium model.

I think that I will probably be wearing this watch for quite a few years to come, I have no doubt that it will carry on doing what it has done thus far, quietly telling me the time and and one of the essential things that I own. I've owned it for almost exactly 24 hours longer than my second daughter has been with us, as it turns out, so that makes it special.

I have been delighted with my watch and think that it holds its own with much more expensive models, so overall it has been an excellent purchase for me and one that I can highly recommend.

Summary: a good watch for the price

Tissot rock watches - that's all I know about them when they appeared in the early 90s.
Great review though.
