Advantages: Fits in fridge, Prevents Limescale, taste Great
* ~ * WHY GET A BRITA JUG? * ~ *
Brita jugs optimise the quality of water in your home and help to reduce lime scale, chlorine and impurities in your tap water. Brita also reduces lime scale when using the filtered water in kettles for hot drinks. Because the water is filtered it means the water also tastes better and helps to optimise the taste of your drinks. The jugs come in a wide range of different models which are made to easily fit into your fridge door. When you buy a jug for the first time you get a cartridge which lasts up to approximately 30 days, before you have to change it. The water is really refreshing and cool on a summer's day as well, especially as the jug can fit easily into the fridge door. We are all recommended to drink at least 2 litres of water a day and knowing I have cold, fresh, filtered water in the fridge helps me to keep on top of this and makes sure I have the recommended water intake daily.
* ~ * THE JUG * ~ *
Brita do a range of different jugs for filtering water, these do vary in price, how-ever they may have different offers in different retailers so it's worth checking prices at a few places before you buy. I purchased the Elemaris jug, as this was the one on offer, and one of their most recent jugs which had been released. When I purchased the jug it was only available to buy in white, how-ever I believe that you can now purchase other colours such as black and other colours. The probably would have gone for the white one anyway as this is the colour of my fridge so it would look better than a coloured one. The top part of the jug is white in colour, this is the lid of the jug and this is where the small screen is to indicate when you need to change the filter. The rest of the jug is made from strong, frosted plastic and has a white base which makes the jug stand up perfectly in the fridge door. The jug has an automatic pour through lid for easy single handed filling and the indicator on top of the jug tells you when the water is being filtered. This is shown by moving drops on the small screen which is located in the lid of the jug. The jugs has s soft grip handle which makes is easier to carry and hold, especially if the product gets a little wet. The jugs itself takes Maxtra cartidges which can be purchased from Argos, Robert Dyas, Amazon and supermarkets. When using the jug for the first time you need to make sure you rinse everything before filtering water into it, how-ever you can't wash the small monitor which tells you when you need to change the cartridge. In the box you will receive a set on instruction which is very simple and the jug is easy to put together. After washing the jug I left it to dry naturally before putting the jug together and fitting the cartridge into place.
Before placing the cartridge into the compartment in the actual jug you need to full the main jug with water and then unwrap a cartridge from the packaging and hold the cartridge down in the water. This is to get rid of any air bubbles that are in the cartridge itself. After you have done this, you can put the jug together and then push the cartridge into its compartment, and then place the lid on top of the jug with the small screen which clicks into place. You need to set the small screen which measure the filter to 100%, you simply do this by holding down the ok button until it fills up to 100% then you can get ready to fill the jug. As you pour water into the lid you will notice that the pressure of the water pushes the lid down to ensure you can full it up with water. You can hear the water start to trickle out of the filter which then starts to fill the jug up. When using the jug for the first time or when-ever you change the filter you need to make sure 2 lots of water have gone through the filter before it's suitable for drinking. After this has been done you can fill the jug up and pop it in your fridge ready for when you need a drink. Over the next few weeks you will notice that the bars on the small screen will go down and it will eventually tell you when you need to change the cartridge after approximately 30 days. Every time you need to put a new cartridge into the jug it's best to wash the jug and all its parts every time to keep the jug clean.
* ~ * PRICE/AVALIABILITY * ~ *
You can buy this from Argos, Robert Dyas and Supermarkets, prices may vary how-ever the recommended retail price is approximately £31.99. You do normally get 1 x Maxtra cartridge with the product; how-ever you can also buy the cartridges singly or in packs. Argos and Robert Dyas regularly have the cartridges on offer and cost about £19.99 for a pack of four when they aren't on offer. I regularly buy these whenever they are on offer to ensure I have plenty and save myself some money too.
* ~ * OVERALL OPINION * ~ *
I am really pleased I decided to buy a Brita jug rather than bottled water all the time. The water tastes great and is great for using in the kettle to reduce lime scale build up. The jug is also more convenient for me as I don't currently drive so it's not easy carrying large water bottles back home from the supermarket on the bus. The cartridges seem to always be on offer in different stores, so I make the most of it and buy them when-ever they are on offer which saves me a fair bit of money. There is definitely a taste different when drinking filtered water and I don't think I could go back to drinking tap water again after using filtered drinking water for so long. The jug itself may seem a bit expensive to buy to start off with, how-ever its well worth the money. I highly recommend others to buy one of these jugs; you will not only notice a difference in the taste of your water but you will notice less lime scale in your kettle as well.
