Advantages: Erm... I didn't pay for it

Disadvantages: Tastes the same as when it came out of the tap

I drink a lot of water throughout the day and for the last few years I've been making do with a plastic jug purchased from Ikea to keep water cool in the fridge. However, when looking for things to add to our wedding gift list I made the decision to join the upper classes by requesting a Brita water filter.

Our wedding day came and went and luckily for me, one of our guests had purchased a Brita filter and some cartridges. I've been using the water filter for a couple of months now and I can honestly say... I can taste no difference whatsoever.

I was expecting the the water from the filter to be pure and noticeably nicer than the stuff that comes out of the tap, but sadly that's not the case. Perhaps my taste buds aren't as good as other people's but to me it just tastes exactly the same.

The jug itself is a bit a problem to refill as well... after being in the fridge for a couple of days, the lid sticks to the base meaning that opening it to put some more water in can be a bit of a challenge! More than once I've ended up spilling it everywhere. I've since seen a new model that has a hole in the top of the lid... I wonder how long it took them to think of that improvement!?

My last moan will be about the cartridges - they're over-priced at around £10 for 2 and only last four weeks before they need replacing which means you'd be spending £60 per year to get water that just tastes like it did when it first came out of the tap!

Summary: I'll keep the £60 a year, thanks

There's no difference where we leave either, I agree with the below comment though, it's probably subjective to where you live. x

Each to their own! I'm from Sheffield and I'm pretty sure that's a hard water area, but the filters make no difference to me at all.

Can't say I agree with you mate, although reviews are understandably subjective. The part of Kent I live in has tap water which can look almost milky at times. Coming from Scotland (where the tap water is lurvly), I couldn't live without my water filter.
