Advantages: Nice clean water
Disadvantages: Costs of cartridges can add up over years
I wasn't fussy about drinking tap water until I found white flaky pieces floating around in my glass of water one time. So, I decided it was time to invest in a jug of water filter. I didn't want an expensive one, just a simple and functional water filter. I saw this Brita Marella Water Filter on amazon for under £20.00 and decided to give this a go.
Brita is a brand with good reputation and has good customer reviews. On the amazon.co.uk websites, there are a variety of Brita Marella Water Filter with different colours available. The one I bought is red in colour, and it's cheaper than other colours (for reasons I don't know): I paid £11.49 for my water filter including postage so I thought it's pretty reasonable. It's easy to put together the pieces and the instructions are clear and to the point. First I rinse the filter jug with tap water and then put the cartridge in. The filter cartridge sits in nicely, not too tight nor loose, and it's easy to change from my experience. To let you know that the cartridge is in the correct place, there's a click once it is places correctly.
The water filter jug is very easy to use and it has a flip top so it's no hassle to fill it up with water. The capacity of the jug is 2.4 litres and the filter has 1.4 litres capacity. I only usually fill the jug to half its maximum capacity. My parents always make sure to fill it up with tap water for next person. To be honest, it's me who tends to forget to fill it water when I have a glass. The filtering time is pretty alright, but it can seem slow when you are in a rush. If the filter is filled to the max, then it takes about 2-3 minutes to be ready.
Is there any difference? Yes, I can easily taste the difference in the water now, it tastes cleaner and doesn't leave much metallic aftertaste. From my experience, it also improves the taste of home-made tea and coffee and they have smoother feel on the palate when I use the filtered water.
The filter cartridges need to be changed every 3-4 months in my household. They're not that cheap but I buy in bulks as they're more economical. A box of 6 filter cartridges costs around £20-25 depending on when you buy it. Personally, after drinking filtered water, I don't think my taste buds can agree with the taste of raw tap water.
Overall, Brita Marella Water Filter is a good water filter and does the job well. It's relatively cheap to buy and the cartridges are not that expensive either. I've been using this water filter for more than eight months and have used up two cartridges, it's been working as new so I would say the product is reliable and durable. I would recommend this Brita Marella Water Filter to anyone looking for a reliable water filter.
Thank you for reading. :) x
