Advantages: Dont hurt, watertight and you can wear them for ages

Disadvantages: None

Zoggs predators are named because........? Absolutely no idea. I am not sure why they have called them predators or what image they think this conjures up for people that wear them however this particular type of goggle (name aside) is awesome for the pool or open water swimming.

I started my preparation for swimming the English channel as most people do in the pool about 18 months before you are due to take up the challenge. I went through several types of speedo goggles that were very good for pool work but were a bit hit and miss for the open water challenge. I also found that the
discolouration occurred quickly through the bleaching of the rubber etc. after about 20 or 30 pool visits.
So onto the predator goggles that I was told about whilst swimming in the river Ouse one Saturday at about 11 degrees. My fellow swimmer stated that the Zoggs predators were the best he had come across and he had never had an issue with his and he actually had several pairs because he rated them so much.

I had tried previous sets of Zoggs but always found them to be small for the eye socket and not very comfortable to wear. However I started on my channel swimming adventure with a certain saying which was "I don't know best" as I had never really swam seriously before. So I borrowed a pair from him and they fitted like a glove. They gave a slightly bigger perspective on what you could see and my peripheral vision became a clearer picture and stopped me having to move my head too much.

The goggles come in several tinted and mirrored varieties and I have only tried the mirrored which I found to be a bit too dark for my liking and also the clear which come with a blue and white surround. These clear goggles were my choice for the eventual swim of the English Channel and I did not have ot touch the goggles once during my 17hour and 15 minute swim to France.

I still have these goggles safely tucked up in a box along with all the other regalia from the swim and I never intend to use them again. They got me across with the minimum fuss and so I went out and bought another pair to use in the pool. Needless to say these are doing well and have eased mer back into training when I managed to stop for a couple of months. The familiarity and reliability they give me is second to none.

The goggles have one strap that is split into two at the back of the head, this is an advantage and helps to keep the goggles in the place that you set for them. Make sure these two straps are separated and not together to maximise the stability they give. The clear goggle did me well in sunlight as well as darkness as some of my swim went into night and the goggles remained as effective for both environments.

Around the £17 mark and easily accessible from Amazon or any other on line retailer. These are the goggles of choice for a this channel swimmer.

Summary: Excellent pair of goggles that served me well throughout my channel swim.
