“ Brand: La Crosse / Type: Anemometers „
I do a lot of Power Kiting and it is often advantageous to know the wind speeds before I launch the kite and find myself doing flying Superman impressions across the field dangling on the end of the lines (read my review of the Flexifoil Rage to know what I mean!!)
I paid about £30 for this a few years ago, and I don't think the price has changed much since. It is basically a hand held anemometer which is a great device for any outdoor professionals or amateur meteorologists with an interest in wind information. The great thing is that it also has a number of other features beyond a simple wind speed measuring device.
It's small (at 97 x 39 x 17 mm) and also measures the temperature, wind chill and the wind speed is measured in a variety of scales (Beaufort, knots, km/h, mph and m/s). It is also backlite which useful in dim light conditions, has an auto power off facility and is water resistant. It also comes with a neck lanyard which means you can have it easily accessible.
I say I mainly use it for the Power Kiting, but when I'm out with the dogs I've often carried it with me just for interest of the weather conditions, and I suppose in a way it does get addictive to monitor the wind speeds and temperature in the early morning. Now, if I'm out on a hike anywhere, I always carry it with me just out of interest.
A great gadget to have for anyone working or venturing outdoors
