“ Brand: Oregon Scientific / Type: Weather Stations „
I love it when I find something that is technologically sophisticated yet easy to use. The only difficulty with attaching to the wall with a nail and hammer can be avoiding hammering on your thumb!
Ease of Use
If you fear for your hand eye co-ordination abilities you can stand the clock upright on a flat surface. I did this, at first, on the desk top but with so much on the surface I decided to de-clutter and risk personal injury by attaching the clock to a wall. The good news - no visit to A&E required.
The news gets better as the design is smooth and contemporary which happened to reflect the mood I was in when I purchased. It is silver in colour. Yes, there is plastic involved but it doesn't appear cheap looking and I should think this helps protect it. I often enjoy old and rustic but I was offered someone's for fifteen pounds as they owned two. This one was still new though gathering dust in a cupboard for a few years. I wanted to splash about some cash and feel like I was modern and advanced in my approach to life. Also, I think my eyes are less sharp than before. It is well made and not cheaply constructed. It will have longevity as it aids people with poor eyesight. The time is big, (gigantic) bold and clear and in twelve hour not twenty-four hour clock. The clock is packaged with two AA batteries. Over a four-and-a-half month period I have not had to change them yet, which is good as I normally avoid batteries but I couldn't resist the great price. This product seems to be worth every pound.
This clever gadget predicts the future. Yes, really it does! When the weather person claims it will rain I have checked the symbols. Last time it claimed the following day would be in full sun. Nonsense, I thought, as the officials know what they are talking about compared to this product. Especially as mine is indoors. (Note my friend, who I'll refer to again later, keeps her clock on a covered decked area). The other symbols of prediction include partial sun and clouds for mixed days, clouds for cloudy days and cloud with rain for, you've guessed it, rainy days! The result - gadget won -the sun shone. I can check out this clock and plan my next day outing and feel that this will be correct. Amazing!
Design and Function
My friend also owns the Oregon Scientific Jumbo Wall Clock and Weather station. It suits her contemporary house all the more but she's extra posh in her taste. She has a European version which displays in twenty-four hour digits and reminds her of her Germany background. She only buys what she considers to be the best in design and function. Believe me, her judgement is scientific and sound, when it comes to gadgets.
The LCD screen is fantastic. Under the time display can be found the temperature in degrees Celsius, day and month. The digits are smaller than the time but still clear and accurate.
The product does that amazing trick where it can set itself to UK time without me have to fiddle and sigh over tricky functions. This is because it is radio controlled. If memory serves me correctly, there are little things to press at the back of the gadget if you really want to play with the technology and change settings. That said, my friend, has adjusted her clock manually and not raised any complaints. The clock will automatically re-set for spring and winter time changes. I've yet to see this but British Summertime will end soon so I can report any problems later though I don't anticipate any.
Size and Location
There is one minor point and that is it doesn't particularly suit this house. It is bold and really needs a mansion-sized house, which is what my friend owns. The product looks exactly right for her space. I love a gadget that can predict the future but it really only suits extra large and modern properties. I haven't done so yet, but I am thinking about giving this to my friend, with dementia, as I can really see how she would benefit from being able to read the large digits, and clock check, without the stress on carers of her queries over time and date.
I highly recommend the Oregon Scientific Jumbo Wall Clock if the conditions are right. Five stars as it cannot lose a star just because my house isn't a mansion!
It was Christmas last year when mother-in-law asked me what we would like as Xmas present...Well, that was a really hard question: i felt so ashamed to tell her we didn't need anything special...i know how much she cares about those things, presents, i mean. So i took some time and promised her i would have thought it over and would have let her know as soon as possible. There i started looking aroung searching for something not too expensive and something that i knew she would have liked to buy (you know how bad is to buy a present you DO NOT like for someone you DO LIKE!!!!!). Anyway husband and i thought it over and finally we came to the decision: a weather forecast clock would do...we didn't have a clock, i mean a trustful one, at home and we liked the idea to have one that could forecast weather conditions. Ok then: we told mum what we liked and also gave her a clue where to find this. We knew that shop sold clocks form Oregon Scientific and hoped that she would buy one of those. WEll she did and on Xmas eve we opened our packet already knowing what we would find in it (but you know...we were just acting for children...): we found the Jumbo Wall Clock and Weather Station from oregon Scientific (eheheh), just the one we wanted!!! It is a square rounded wall clock, with a case design in blue that perfectly armonizes with our living room. It has an extra large LCD display that allows you to read the time and everything on it perfectly at a glance. In the right corner above there's the time, very clear, with big numbers; just below on the left there's the pressure trend arrow indicator: this clock actually can give you the pressure trend for the last hour: so improving weather is indicated with a rising arrow, whilst deteriorating weather condition is indicated with a falling arrow. On the same line but on the right there are the illustrated weather symbols: a sun for sunny weather, some clouds and a sun for slightly cloudy
weather, some clouds stays for cloudy weather and finally clouds with rain stays for rainy weather. Very simple indeed. What is important to keep in mind is that the weather forecast symbols MAY NOT reflect current weather condition, as they are just forecasting the future. So you may find clods on display while outside it is brightly sunny... At the bottom of the display there's the calendar: day, month, day of the week. On the right there's finally the indoor temperature value in C° (within -5°C and +50°C). The calendar clock can be set in different languages (French, English, Italian and German). One of the main things to say about this clock is its precision both for the weather forecasts and the clock itself. The time is actually syncronized with Frankfurt radio signals that automatically regulate time and date scanning and making adjustments every full hour. So you won't have to care for changing time or adjusting the clock when it stops. Everything is done automatically and very very precisly...we didn't believe this before...now we do!!! Next to the time there's an Antenna Icon that starts blinking when the unit is receiving the radio signal from Frankfurt: it usually takes a few minutes to set the time and when the reception is complete the icon stops blinking. So far the description of the clock...now my impressions about this. Well i would say that it is wonderful...not only for its modern but classical design but especially for the precision of time and weather forecasts...At first we didn't thought it could be possible for a home weather station to be precise...but we had to change our opinion. In one year we were able to know 36-48 hours earlier the weather we were goning to have...very useful in summer before going out for the week end on just before planning any activity one day ahead: it never, never, failed, believe me. Anothe good thing is that you can install it on the wall and on a staedy flat s
urface: just choose the best position for you. To come to an end of this...i must say we made the right choice last year for chreistmas...that is a very helpful and lovely present to make and to receive. I would like to suggest you to buy it or...ask it as a present....Xmas is approaching guys!!!!
