Advantages: Cheap, Free software is ok for the price, Bulldog clip comes with it so you can clip it ontop your monitor

Disadvantages: Not much help for beginners

The Avermedia webcam is small, neat and well priced. (around £30-£40) It comes with a handy bulldog clip which fits on the bottom and lets you attach it easily to a laptop or your own home monitor.

The software which comes free with the camera is very basic but works well and allows still pictures and video clips to be stored and later played around with. The Avermedia webcam also comes free with a security program, which can detect any movement in front of the camera and record the results automatically.

Still images can be stored in a range of file formats for compatibility with your favourite image-editing software and the quality is quite good, especially considering how cheap the camera is.

The camera settings such as brightness and focus can be ajusted using the supplied software and there's also a manual focus ring on the camera itself to make sure your images stay sharp.

You can attach the camera to a USB connection and that is quite easy to do, but you don't get the same kind of step-by-step help some other web cams get.

Overall I would say that this is a nice camera and would be best suited to people who don't want loads of features, have a good idea how to use a cam and don't want to spend a lot of money.
