Advantages: Good video quality in very low light

I bought this to replace a DCS-3220 for nighttime surveillance. What a difference in almost total darkness. The image improved a little after installing a small infrared light source to flood the monitored area. I had it installed less than 30 days, when I recorded thieves attempting to break into my car and truck, at 3:00 AM, while parked in my driveway. The video conversion for the police report was very grainy. Not as good as the playback video. Converting the video image to a series of jpeg images greatly improved the picture quality. Good enough to identify the thieves. The only problem I encountered was the need to adjust the video gain, and alarm triggers to function in total darkness and full daylight. Solved this by creating an application that updates the camera setup over the IP connection, around sunrise and sunset times. I am very please with the performance of this camera.
