Advantages: Ease of Use, Money saving, Sturdiness
Disadvantages: Heavy battery use, cant take multiple pictures at one time
This is the first digital camera I have ever owned, but have owned a number of cameras in the past including an SLR. We bought it because we wanted to have a reliable camera to make sure that we wouldn't miss our baby's firsts by taking bad pictures. I have found it extremely easy to use and it offers a fail safe way to ensure you get the picture you want because of the review method - you can see the picture within seconds of taking it. I am reasonably computer literate and have found the way of uploading the pictures to the computer to be extremely simple. You can treat the camera as if it were a folder on your hard disk and then simply drag the pictures into another folder when required. You don't need to use a paint or photo program to get at your pictures. A slightly better model than this one allows pictures to be taken in very quick succession, but we decided that this wouldn't matter to us. On balance, I have found it slightly irritating to wait and I would say that this is a negative to the DC240 as the red light on the back of the camera will flash for several seconds between shots. There is a method where you can see the picture through the review screen on the back rather than through the view finder. This uses huge amounts of battery power and gives quite a grainy picture. We have only used this system when we have been 'messing around' with the camera and haven't found a practical use for it although it may be useful if you wish to use i as more than a 'point and shoot' camera. When I gave birth to my daughter the midwife found the camera difficult to use, but then she did admit to having a camera phobia. When explained it to her, she went on to take some beautiful photos. All other members of my family have found it extremely simple to use - even my two year old daughter has taken pictures with it (not that they were much good!) If you are taking the came
ra away from the computer for some time - like going on holiday for instance you might find the card capacity quite limited. We bought an extra card for this purpose. Again, the battery charger that came with the camera has been extremely well used as it does tend to drain batteries quite quickly. I do not know whether this is better or worse than other cameras. It is a very well built camera, and extremely sturdy. We have not had any difficulties with it in the two years we have owned it. When I bought it I would have thought that they could have supplied a camera bag, as we had to go out and buy one. On the whole I am very glad we have this camera as we have been able to gain some absolutely stunning photos with it and been able to be more daring with the photos I have taken. If they haven't worked out, it is a simply two step process to delete them and you haven't wasted any money.
