Advantages: Reliable, Good picture quality, price
Disadvantages: small resolution compared to modern cameras, Size, Small Memory Card included
I bought the DC240 a couple of years ago now and I can highly recommend this type of camera. When the time comes to buy a new digital camera, I will be buying another Kodak as I have been so impressed with this one. At the time (1999), the camera was a reasonable spec - 1280x1024 resolution digital camera with a 8mb Compactflash card included. We bouhght ours from Jessops mainly because it was the only place that was interested in doing us a deal with a photo printer at the time. Since then, we've used camera on 3 holidays, a number of mountain bike trips and other family occasions. Its been up Mount Rainier in the US, up the Empire State Building at night and Leighton Buzzard :). The pictures have always been excellent. They are crisp, colourful and are true to life. They are ideal for photo paper (10x8) but are not as good as the later cameras which can print a4. The most difficult time i've had is taking pictures at night. The camera is particularly sensitive to movement during capture and this is accentuated at night. You need to keep very still or use a tripod if taking pictures in low light. The adjustable exposure settings on the camera go some way to relieve this but a steady hand is useful. The 8mb card is a little stingy but Compactflash memory is so cheap, that there is no problem picking up a 64mb card for under £40. The installation / communication with the PC is very straightforward. It works either by USB or serial ( both cables were included ). The software installation works first time and the USB communication is very quick. Windows XP has a specific driver for this camera so no installation is required, just connect the cables and off you go. In summary, i've been very please with my camera and would recommend it to anyone.
