These days one must be very careful who one invites inside their house. While many people might seem trust worthy on the outside you never really know who you're dealing with so one should always have maximum security.

Fed up with dodgy builders constantly stealing stuff, yet no evidence to prove it, I now have a range of IP cameras to keep an eye on strangers working in the house without having to follow them around. I purchased this WVC54GCA camera when it was on a half price special offer last year for around £40.

Since this isn't the first internet camera I have purchased I already had some idea what to expect. The Linksys IP camera is wireless so you can place it anywhere in the house where there's a power socket and simply connect it to a wireless router. Overall the basic setup isn't difficult, anyone who has setup a wireless router shouldn't have a problem. Open a web browser, type in the camera's IP address and you can watch a live stream. The camera has useful features such as motion detection, select what areas of the screen you would like detected and every time motion is detected either a picture or a video will be sent depending on your preference. Images and videos can be uploaded to an ftp or sent to your email.

This camera doesn't have infrared so indoor images are quite dark unless the room is fully lit. The camera performs quite poorly indoors. However, pointing the camera in front of a window, and the image quality from outdoors is fairly good.

These days IP cameras are an excellent way to view a live stream and check your house while away on vacation so I highly recommend anyone to consider buying one. Overall I paid only £40 on special offer so for this price the camera is very good value for money. However at full retail price it seems a bit over priced.
