Advantages: Bargain!
Disadvantages: Bad quality in the dark!
~~WHAT IS IT?~~ The Logitech QuickCam Express is a camera designed for video conferencing over the Internet. ~~HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?~~ It costs £30 - £40 from high street PC retailers. ~~MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS~~ Win 98 32Mb RAM USB Port Although this camera can run on these specs, the software refuses to load if there is insufficient RAM. ~~PICTURE QUALITY~~ The picture quality is very reasonable for a budget camera. Naturally, the more light, the better the quality. In dark conditions, i.e. night time with artificial light, the picture is grainy. ~~DESIGN~~ The design of this model is fairly attractive, though could be better as it looks fairly out dated. The wire on the back makes it slip over, usually when it is in an ideal position! This could have been rectified if they put the wire slightly further down. ~~SOFTWARE~~ The software supplied is adequate, although I recommend downloading the latest version from their web site as it is more stable, and offers higher resolutions. It seems to like helping itself to RAM, but this is understandable as the image constantly refreshes, even if the window isn't active. ~~USABILITY~~ The Logitech QuickCam can be used with other applications with ease, and it's easier than using the supplied software. It comes with NetMeeting. I have used it successfully with Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Messenger (Soon to be launched with WinXP). ~~FIDDLEABOUTABILITY~~ The settings are quite good, although the flicker control doesn't seem to do much. The autobalance is useful, but not always perfect if you are trying to record a video e-mail or a photo, as it doesn't enhance the photo enough. ~~CONCLUSION~~ Buy it! It's a bargain, and with the supplied software you can video conference with people all over the world, or the people next door! <
br>~~PROMOTION!~~ At a leading high street electronics shop, they are £39,99 for 2!
