I am currently in a long-distance relationship (don't all shout awwwe at once). Therefore, webcams are of extreme importance to me. I use them to see my love on a daily basis, when he's at home I hate the sight of his face.. When he's in the middle east I love it. I also love to see how the kids over there are growing up, also I like to see the 'in-laws.' This was my first webcam and I would be surprised if this heap of junk was still on the market, I bought it with my desktop computer. It was very cheap, only £20.00 at the time. I firstly installed it.
You were given a CD which installs the program allowing you to take pictures, record videos from it and change the settings for example brighter, lighter, fuzzier (great when you are looking good but your annoying uncle from Canada insist on seeing your face), blurrier, sharper, darker. You could use Sepia, black and white, old-fashioned effect, you name it even put little patterns around the picture screen! However, I always noticed that my webcam was unbelievably blurry regardless of how hard I tried to sharpen it. My fiancée always had a better webcam than me and I could feel his frustration when I could see the pores on his skin and all he could see is a moving blob! The webcam came with next to no instructions, most of the instructions were about installing the program and nothing to do with actually using the program So I messed about with it myself trying to fix the unacceptably poor image.
I then noticed the round dial around the lens could be twisted and turned to get a sharper or blunter image. I had to mess around with the Hue, saturation and gamma in order to get it to a decent screen. I thought having to do this was unacceptable and it should already be installed with an appropriate level of clarity.
I then noticed that you could never sit it at a good angle. It had an awkward little triangular, flat rubber stand that did hardly anything. You could twist it and strangely it made the little ball of the webcam go either so high you could see the ceiling, or so low that you could see my Primark socks! It got the point where I have to take the ball-like webcam and sit it on its own surrounded by ornaments so it wouldn't fall.
Does it look nice next to your computer? Well, at the time I thought it looked quite cute. The actual camera is nothing but a white ball with a grey pattern on top with a button that will take a picture at any time! (We had a few accidents and very interesting pictures taken accidentally!). However, It clicks into a flat rubber stand, when you twist it, it changes angle however you could never get it to sit properly. The best webcams clip on to the computer and the lens can go up, down, backwards and forwards in order to get the best image of you! In actual fact, this webcam turned out to be one of the ugliest looking things being told. I suggest a sleek, black one which is square shaped with long stand legs (looking a bit like a spider) if youw ant to maintain the look of your desktop.
Then, I began to notice that the program you open in order to take pictures and change the setting of the webcam stopped working. I tried re-installing it with the CD, but it still never worked. It got to the point where this webcam was doing nothing, and it ended up in a cupboard along with unused wires and cables. I finally bought a laptop with a built-in webcam. However, the only bad thing to come about it is that you can't unplug it when people are pestering you to go on webcam (sighh). Anyway, I would never, ever recommend buying this webcam to anyone and I have also heard a lot of Logitech's products aren't so good. I would suggest buying a more expensive webcam for a clearer picture and the ability to gain a better angle.
I cringe even giving this one star!!
I like this product; I have been using it for the last 3-4 months and has been very useful to me. I basically use it because I travel a lot over England and this is one way you can keep in touch with your company. You can carry this around with you with your notebook computers and you can use it to start a Webcam talk with another person in another country, company and friends. The video quality is not very good and this is a big disadvantage and the camera cannot be rotated 360 degrees as it can only be twisted 180 degrees. You can also use only the camera on its own as you dont have to use the stand which comes along with it. You also get a software that comes along with Logitech and with this you can take pictures and make videos.
Overall this product is a must buy, I find it very useful as you can have a webcam chat with anyone over the world but the video quality has not been improved a lot over the years. When doing a webcam chat the picture does move quite slow.
