Advantages: Value for money, A lot of fun, Lots of free software

Disadvantages: Lack of portability, No zoom function, but are there QuickCams that zoom anyway?, You can’t have everything!

I have had my QuickCam Web now since Christmas 2000, and I’m still addicted to just bumming around with it making funny videos and pictures etc. You don’t have to just use it for online purposes. I already have a whole 1GB of Hard Drive spaced used up from the masses of amusing stuff I’ve recorded! It is amazing the number of
new ideas you can have with a QuickCam. Don’t forget to try out the Reality Fusion games on the CD-ROM – they use the QuickCam to detect your movements so that the games interact with what you do! Punch The Clown is just one of the games where you actually have to physically thump it to your desire as long as the QuickCam can see your fist. You can watch yourself doing it on screen. Great stuff! All the software in this products package is worth £159.99, but guess what? It comes FREE! So the price tag of £69.99 is a great deal!

The only slight problem that occurred on my PC, were that after installing the QuickCam and its software, I noticed that my ‘My Documents’ folder had an alteration with the file icons within it. Basically my Word files had PowerPoint icons next to them, my PowerPoint files and QuickCam icons next to them, and so on. This became quite annoying after a while and can cause some confusion. If this happens to you, there is a way of sorting it out. After defragmentating my PC, they were sorted out! For users who have no idea what Defragmenter means, basically it is a process that sorts your PC files so they are in the right place. It also helps make programs start faster. Don’t be afraid to do this as it is something that should be done monthly anywa
y as PC maintenance. To do it, go to ‘Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter’. I suggest it be done over night as it can take a long time. Turn off any screensavers to prevent interference and turn off your monitor. It should definitely be finished by the morning.
Besides, your PC may end up fine after the installation anyway so don’t worry too much if the above sounds confusing, but the above info is there in-case you experience the same problems I did.

Overall, a great piece of kit. Worth the money and guaranteed to bring much pleasure! Now if only it was portable too! If it was, it would get a 6/5 score, although USB extension cables can be bought if you fancy taking the QuickCam further from your PC and into other rooms.
Use if for whatever you like or whatever you wish to do! Edit your pics and videos, adjust the way the Cam takes pics and videos, you can do it all!
