Advantages: Skype is cheaper to use with webcam
Disadvantages: It doesnt fit on the screen anymore
This clever little webcam was bought for me when me and my boyfriend were living in different countries. Now he is living in France for work, and the webcam is again proving to be a great money saver.
I have skype downloaded, and put credit on it as its cheaper to phone his french mobile than using my mobile. The webcam has a microphone inside it, so can be used as a phone with his voice coming back through my speakers.
Its so easy to use, you just plug it into a usb plug, mine is on the front of my computer. Then configure it with skype once when you first download it and it will work for the rest of the time after that.
The webcam feature is ok, as the picture changes in lightness according to how dark the rooms is, so you can use it day or night. I can have video conversations via skype with my parents which is pretty cool. They have the skype webcam, and theirs has the same sort of picture as mine.
This webcam cost £13 3 years ago from PC world, Im not sure how much it would cost now.
The only problem with it is that the little stopper that kept it on top of the screen has fallen off sometime in use, and now it wont sit on top of the screen and I have to hold it in my hand. I suppose thats because it was cheap and has been moved around a lot in 3 years.
I would recommend this if you want to use skype as it works well with it, or if you use msn it works with the webcam feature.
Summary: Im glad I have one

- 25/05/09 Probably time for a new one. A 300K CCD isn't going to give a very good picture, though probably good enough for video calls. Make sure the next one's not less than 1.3M. |
