Advantages: great easy to use, great picture quality
Disadvantages: no phototaking software- trojan found on disk.
I have never owned a webcam before, so i thought i'd try now, and i have not been disappointed.
The webcam was nicely designed, sharp, and sleek. The black and silver compliments each other well, and is a nice round circular shape. It has 6 lights on the front for when it is dark which can easily be turned on, and the central lense is 5 megapixels.
IT has a nice grip for the laptop or monitor for easy placement, and it can also be placed flat on the desk. However, the wires are not quite long enough for both the webcam AND the integrated mic, which i had to get a USB extention (luckily i had one from a previous mp3 player).
The installation was simple, all you needed to do was plug it in and it will automatically install the drivers. It was THAT simple. and it was ready to use. You might need to adjust some settings on your chat browser. MSN was easy and simple to install and setup.
The camera image is extremely clear, and there is very little lag. There are also other settings that can be controlled, such as light intensity, hue etc so you can sharpen your image and make it the best quality possible.
However, i have struggled to find a way to take pictures to be stored on the computer using the webcam.. the disk supplied contained a trojan virus which was VERY shocking, and is absolutely horrific. Thank goodness i had a virus checker which blocked it.
Overall, it was a good buy for £10 and its very clear image is definitely worth a go. It fulfils all the basic requirements of voice chat and video calls, but it would be nice if you could take snapshots to save on your computer... nevertheless, it is quite fun, and extremely easy and convenient to use.
Summary: a good first webcam!
