Containing a blend of highly effective natural ingredients, Pomegranate Firming Day Cream (part of our Pomegranate Firming Facial Care line) is the ideal companion to your skin's natural aging process.
Is it worth the money?
First, without sunscreen (something Weleda doesn't offer) this moisturiser isn't suitable for daytime use. But let's say you're considering this because you plan to apply a foundation rated SPF 15 or greater on top of this. Is it worth it? Despite containing a very good mix of non-fragrant plant oils (all of which convey antioxidant benefits), this moisturiser lists alcohol as its third ingredient. Although the amount of alcohol is likely less than 5%, why risk the irritation and free-radical damage it can cause when there are so many moisturisers that omit this problematic ingredient?
In addition, like most Weleda products, this contains a lot of fragrance ingredients that can cause irritation on their own. In short, even if you're looking for all-natural products (which this qualifies as), using this is a tough sell.
I have quite sensitive skin and for me this product was no good and left me looking like a red, blotchy mess.

I don't think there's one best hand cream, many brands do their job excellently. When I needed some new stuff, I asked a shop-assistant in a health store for a small tube of any brand because I wanted it for my handbag. She offered me the Pomegranate Hand cream from WELEDA, I liked the size, the smell and the idea that it was from WELEDA.
At home I checked the homepage of the firm and found some test questions, my answers led to the conclusion that I should also use Pomegranate Firming Care, i.e., the Firming Face Serum and the Day and Night Firming Face Creams. The Pomegranate Firming Care is a fairly new addition to the WELEDA Cosmetics range, it's aimed at customers in their 40s and 50s. As there is no other range to follow, it can only mean that older people can also use it or that according to the ad people of cosmetics firms older people are beyond care anyway. Odd, considering that people are getting older and older and that many of them have a considerable spending power. But maybe oldies don't want to be addressed as such and prefer buying products advertised for younger people.
I knew WELEDA already and that only excellent products come from this firm. WELEDA, named after the Celtic goddess of wisdom and healing, is situated in the small town of Schwäbisch-Gmünd, 45 km east of Stuttgart in the south of Germany. It was founded 90 years ago and is based on the anthroposophical teachings of Rudolf Steiner which encourage the individual to see their body, mind and spirit "as intrinsically linked to our world; all part of our holistic system. Sounds new agey? It's actually old agey - what cultures around the world have done successfully for generations" (from the homepage).
It was clear that I'd like the Pomegranate Face Care, I fell in love with the fruit some time ago during hols on the south coast of Turkey. I used the fruit internally there in the form of juice, preferably mixed with orange juice. I drank it every day.
The smell of Pomegranate Face Care is pleasurable but doesn't seem to come from its main ingredient. "The natural fragrance has been designed to hit a sophisticated note, subtly sensual, feminine and warming. Essential oil of davana lends an exotic, oriental character together with mellow base notes of sandal wood and neroli". (homepage)
I wash my face with soap and a flannel, after experimenting with other methods I've decided to stick to this one because I like it best. Then I apply a cleansing liquid which WELEDA recommend for all skin types. After that come the Firming Face Serum and the Day Firming Face Cream (at night only the Firming Face Serum and the Night Firming Face Cream). Both the Day and Night Cram come in 30g tubes and look exactly alike with only one word being different. That is not good! In order to grab the right tube I have to put my glasses on, the letters are too small for me to read. To be sure it wouldn't hurt me if I put Night Cream on in the morning and Day Cream before going to bed, but as WELEDA have developed two different kinds of creams, they must be of the opinion that it makes sense to use them at the right time. I sent an e-mail to WELEDA HQ complaining about the small script, I suggested they put a big D or N respectively on the tubes. They thanked me for the feedback and promised to forward my suggestion to the design people. Let's see if there'll be an improvement one day. I doubt it, though.
Is WELEDA Pomegranate Firming Care good for me? Let's have a look at what it primises:
1) Reduces wrinkles and tautens.
2) Protects from oxidative stress.
3) Improves elasticity and resilience.
I can say that Pomegranate Face Care tautens the skin alright. But does it reduce the depth of my wrinkles? Pity that I didn't measure their depth before using Pomegranate Face Care, WELEDA mention that dermatological tests have shown that after 28 days of use the depth of wrinkles is reduced by 14% and skin elasticity improved by 11%. I wonder if that is meant to happen every month so that after using this cream for ~ seven months I can expect to have skin as smooth as a baby bottom again. Would be logical, wouldn't it?
Yet, I don't believe in miracles. I'm content if my skin can stay the way it is for a while longer, if it doesn't become too wrinkly too quickly. After using WELEDA Pomegranate Face Care for two months I have the impression that it can help me reach this aim. I like the mention of antioxidants, I have no idea what they are, I always think of rust and am happy that WELEDA can guarantee me not to look rusty.
The creams are suitable for vegans (whatever that means).
Amazon sell WELEDA Firming Pomegranate Day Cream for 19.75 GBP. It contains 30g and lasts a bit longer than two months. With the help of my pocket calculator I've found out that it costs you 30p a day which considering the quality of the product I find a good price.
The creams deserve five stars but the packaging, the tubes with the small print, cost them one star. Pity.
