I was lucky enough to have had a basket of toiletries and skin care as a birthday present recently from by daughter and there were a few Weleda products in there, one of them being this Weleda pomegranate firming eye cream. I have been using eye cream now for some years and find that it really does make a difference to the appearance of the soft skin around my eye area.
This eye cream came in a red and white box which gives tells you that it is firming eye cream which regenerates aging skin and supports skin renewal, gives you youthful vitality and has antidoxant cell protection. It also says that it is fragrance free and is certified natural facial care. The tube itself is also red and white and has a white screw top. The tube is only 10ml so is quite small but you really do only have to use a small amount each time.
As suggested in the name of the product it does contain pomegranate and also golden millet. It has been opthamologically tested so is suitable for contact lens wearers which I do wear. My eyes are quite sensitive but I have never found this to irritate or cause any redness to my eyes even when I put my lenses in after applying the cream. It is also suitable for vegans due to only containing natural organic ingredients.
The cream itself is white and is thick enough to stay on your finger until you apply it to the area around your eyes. I use a blob which measures about three millimetres and although this is a tiny amount it is enough for me to apply to both of my eyes. You wouldn't really want any more than this as it would need too much rubbing in and it would be a waste. It is fragrance free which is something that I like personally as I don't really like skin care that has any fragrance. I find that it absorbs quickly and effortlessly into my skin and I would say that it takes about ten seconds for each eye as I use very small sweeping movements with my index finger as I don't like to use too much pressure.
Weleda claim that wrinkles are reduced by 23 per cent after using this cream for 28 days. I have been using it for about three weeks now and I can say that although my wrinkles have not disappeared (I don't think any cream would actually do that though, however much you paid for it), the skin around my eyes does look smoother and slightly plumped up. It also seems to be slightly firmer which I can tell from my skin not moving so much when I am applying the cream. I had previously been using another brand of eye cream which cost over £20 and I think that the results are more noticeable with this one so I will continue to use it.
I will usually use it in the evenings as I have more time than in the morning, and applying it after I have cleansed my face I think this gives the best results as it has more time to work. At my age I do like to look after my skin and I do spend money on good products. This is the first time I have used this but I would definitely buy it especially if I could get it on offer. It is £23.59 to buy direct from Weleda but I have seen it on Amazon for just over £8 which I think is well worth the money.
About a fortnight ago I bought a tube of Weleda Pomegranate Firming Eye Cream. I had not tried a Weleda product before but I liked that this one was in a 10ml small tube so convenient for carrying around or for travel. It cost me £19.95. Apparently Weleda are well know for natural products.
The eye cream was a pale colour. It was easy to squirt just the amount I wanted to use from the tube - not too much or too little. There was a slight floral smell but not too much and I didn't find it irritating.
This cream absorbs really well and quickly too. I have quite dry eyelids and it has helped, so far, much more than any other cream I've used. I put a small amount on in the mornings on my eyelids, just under my eye and at the eye corners. The cream moisturises well. It doesn't make my skin shiny and my eye make-up stays on even after I've used it.
I don't have problems with dark circles so I'm not sure if this cream would help with those. However I think it has tightened up the skin under my eyes as well as adding moisture so I think it's a good cream overall.
I tested the Weleda Pomegranate firming eye cream for the Handbag Beauty Bible. Weleda is a natural brand you mostly see sold in health food shops.
I wouldn't normally look to an organic eye cream so this was a bit of an experiment for me. I must admit to being fooled more than once into buying overpriced eye creams that seldom live up to promises however, so I was willing to give this one a shot. Unfortunately when I initially applied this cream the lavender scent of the cream was so overpowering it made my eyes water and sting slighly.
As I was testing it though, I commited to using it as it was a relatively minor discomfort that I do think I got more used to with repeated use (the watering certainly lessened, the smell was still a bit annoying though). I sincerely hope they consider reducing the scent of their lotions however as I find them off putting, especially in an eye cream.
Well, other than the overpowering scent, this cream did have some notable plus sides. It is very light and quickly absorbed, and really quite moisturising considering how light it is texture-wise. I would even go so far as to say it had a tightening effect, especially when used in the morning. Pomegranate is full of anti-oxidants with internal benefits that it would seem can be applied topically. Weleda purport that the macademia nut oil and golden millet add moisture back to the skin, which I would agree with from my experience.
I felt my undereye area appeared less "crepey" while using this and confident my makeup would look good over it. I do suffer from dark circles, I would not say this improved them much if any but it did not worsen them either. I came to enjoy using this cream despite the scent. I just used it sparingly and made sure to keep it as far away from my waterline as possible. Which isn't ideal for an eye cream, really, but I would say this one is worth a try if you like these sorts of products as I do think the benefits outweigh the drawback of the scent. Like pretty much all eye creams, the efficacy of this one goes away when you stop using it.
