Weleda was a brand I have previously heard of but never tried until a friend of mine gave me some Weleda products from my birthday in the summer. These Weleda products were all from the Pomegranate range, and this particular product I am reviewing is the hand cream. I don't tend to use hand cream as I wouldn't say my skin is typically dry, although like most people when the cold weather comes, I do tend to apply a moisturising cream in the morning and at night. Seeing that this hand cream can cost between £8 and £9 typically for a 50ml tube, it is well out of my budget, so I was quite excited to try something that I wouldnt' usually be able to afford.
Weleda calls this hand cream 'regenerating', and claims it will 'firm and renew'. It claims to help with the signs of ageing (I hope my friend wasn't implying anything!!). A lot of people seem to like the Weleda Brand, including my friend, because it uses natural ingredients rather than man made ingredients and is generally eco friendly. It contains 100% natural pomegranate seed oil and pure natural plant extracts. This pomegranate seed oil is meant to help reduce age spots and encourage firmness of the skin because its antioxidant, and is dermatologically tested with good results. In fact this hand cream has won awards for its anti ageing qualities.
When I used this product, I tended to apply it at night before bed. THere was an obvious scent to the product which I found quite pleasant however I think it could be the kind of scent that wouldn't be to everyone's taste. When you first apply the product, it was a little greasy, but then I have found that before, and it did soak in fairly quickly. There was a definite difference in softness on my hands and I do put that down to this cream. However, I know I'm not that old yet, but I wouldnt' say I would gave noticed any difference in firmness of my skin on my hands, which is obviously not as taut as it was ten years ago. I am still using this cream and I like it, but my usual moisturiser which is not on that price scale, leaves my hands soft (ok not as soft as this but still soft enough), so I don't think I could justify buying it myself out of my budget.
All in all, this is a nice smelling hand cream that when applied daily/nightly does leave hands feeling very soft, however, there are other hand creams on the market that are cheaper, smell nicer and leave hands soft as well.
Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream
I do really like the Weleda company and their principles and ethics. They have a factory not far from where we live but are originally a German company founded by Rudolph Steiner who also founded the Steiner schools - an amazingly forward thinking man. I trust and respect their products and ethics.
All Weleda products are : 100% pure and natural and are certified . they use only the 'purest wild crafted, biodynamic or organically grown ingredients. Their products contain no petroleum derived ingredients, no synthetic chemicals, no synthetic preservatives, no synthetic fragrances, no GMOs and naturally are NOT tested on animals (apart from willing humans of course).
I received this 10ml sample tube of handcream from Weleda and was keen to try it and so I have applied it straight away. It is designed to help with skin regeneration so really for those over the young firm skin age! The full sized tube is 50ml and costs around #9 depending where you buy it.
My mini tube has a screw off lid and you have to invert that and screw it into the lid the first time to break the seal which I think is such a clever way of preventing any tampering with any tubed product and stops accidental leakage too. The tube is basically red so easy to spot on shelves.
The cream is soft and comes out easily. It is very quickly absorbed into my skin leaving my hands looking much better and feeling nice and soft, the lines have not disappeared but the skin looks good and feels great. It isn't sticky to touch at all , when I touch my hands they feel smooth and pleasant.
The smell is absolutely lovely. They say it is called pomegranate but the smell is very herby, strong orange or neroli I think but certainly citrus with a hint of olive as well. It is hard to explain but I just keep sniffing my hands as I am writing this as the smell is really lovely.
The cream felt soft, cool and really pleasant as I applied it and my hands were feeling a bit dry having just finished some housework but now they feel great, my hands feel well nourished and there is no feeling of stickiness or oiliness which sometimes I get from handcreams so that I could get on with whatever I wanted and not spend ages rubbing my hands to get the cream absorbed.
Weleda have had this tested by dermatologists and have found that by using this cream skin roughness is reduced. By 9.1% after 28 days use and moisture in the skin is improved by 34% after the same time. This information was taken from the booklet they sent me.
The handcream contains certified organic shea butter which protects the skin from losing moisture and the natural plant extracts stimulate cell renewal which helps to keep the skin on your hands soft and nourished. The rejuvenating properties of pomegranate seed oil are what is the big
My hands have seen a lot of sun, hard work and exposure to weather as I am not good at wearing protective gloves when gardening etc. I am good at using hand creams though and have high hopes for this. I have been using it for a few days only and so far have been well impressed and can't get enough of the wonderful scent.
You can buy Weleda products from their own website, some re on Amazon, some in Holland & Barratt, Boots and other internet sites so shop around for value. In Boots it is £8.95 and £7.16 from Amazon as I write this Oct 2013.
I don't think that is a bad price at all for a fully natural product that is such goods quality and does such a great job at re building my skin and feeding it so well.
I am not alone in rating this company and their products highly as they have won numerous awards for their products and if you visit their website they explain where their ingredients come from exactly and how they are harvested and so on. You really can find out about every ingredients and what the benefits of each one is as well as which country it comes from and how it is harvested and used in the product.
Thank you Weleda for this really lovely, cruelty free, natural hand cream I thoroughly recommend it to anyone with dry, older skin and for anyone who feels cruelty free natural beauty products are the way to go. This one works everyone and smells good and is not any more expensive than many other less ethical brands.

Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream
This is a favourite company of mine. It is an experienced and longstanding brand who produce fine beauty products and health related products to a high standard. Cruelty free and natural ingredients underpin the philosophy of Weleda. I resonate with them and respect them. They have my trust.
Why this hand cream?
Winter time can produce drying effects especially on the hands. I don't stick religiously to using a hand cream and therefore am not normally tempted to buy, but on this occasion the advertising and award winning cream attracted my attention. Smoothness, plumpness and younger looking hands sounded appealing and so I had no hesitation in giving this one a try.
At 50ml the boxed quality tube of cream is a handy size. Minimal fuss and modest - the box oozes an attractive quality. Everything is detailed though not overwhelming - you can easily find what you want to read. The tube is thick and robust - as expected from Weleda. The screw off lid design is user friendly and finishes off the look nicely. I'm ready to trial.
Who is it aimed at?
The over 40's is the targeted consumer but in all honesty I would use this no matter what age I was as it is just divine.
An enjoyable trail!
I looked forward to beginning the trial and as per usual unless adverse reactions are encountered I trial until the product is used up. This way I can calculate the economical status and see visual effects - if any.
Trial information and results!
There is not much to describe about the activity of applying hand cream - what I can tell you is that the tube is a high end product and fit for purpose. The lid fits well and is easy to use. The cream is easily squeezed by a gentle amount of pressure and there you have it.
The bit I was interested in is the consumer experience once this cream reaches the hands. The consistency of the cream is comparable to your high end beauty products - it is rich, thick and feels cool and calming on the hands. The fragrance of this Pomegranate hand cream is consistent with the range and has a welcome fruitiness which did not overpower my senses, this will later journey through the notes of the ingredients which include neroli - a favourite of mine and it smells divine.
The cream is absorbed relatively quickly in comparison with other products that I have trialled. I love the cool and delicate sensation when first applied and enjoy the sumptuous caressing nature that the cream delivers as it is massaged in. Moments later the cream is no more but the hands feels nourished and moisturised. No stickiness or oiliness has prevented me from touching. I am very impressed.
I do not have to coerce myself into developing a hand cream regime with this one. It has not sat collecting dust on my dresser - no chance of that as it is a pleasure and a treat to use. I particularly like to apply it just before bed so that it remains insitu all night without being washed off. Having said that I have noted that during the day I can still feel the effects of the cream after one hand wash and this is something that I have never experienced with other brands.
The cream lasts me personally, with my preferred usage of one or two application per day, approximately two months. In my opinion that is good.
What I have noticed, after using this cream for a couple of months, is that my hands are smooth, no longer dry and are visibly plumper. They do look younger. I have to say that this range has impressed me very much indeed as I never normally get such great results nor do I expect to.

A beauty essential...
Having enjoyed a very successful and enjoyable treat (should I say trial) of this product I can report that I will be maintaining a regime. At a good size of 50ml and in the usual quality Weleda packaging this cruelty free, natural cream is a winner. It has been economical in my experience and when on offer is an even better option. As with anything you get what you pay for and this product is no exception as it is certainly fit for purpose. Awards and reviews claim the rejuvenating properties of pomegranate seed oil will offer visible results - I can tell you that after a couple of weeks I noted a difference in the appearance of the skin on my hands. Plumper and smooth - no longer dry! The smell is just beautiful and especially the neroli which becomes apparent during the journey through the notes. Luxurious and pampering this cream is worth every penny in my opinion and it is suitable for vegans too. Thank you Weleda!
