Georg Jensen Wine Cooler
by Essexgirl2006
I work for a Danish firm and every Christmas they give us a gift with a Danish flavour. Often we have received home wares gifts from the prestigious Danish luxury goods brand Georg Jensen. The brand make jewellery and watches as well as home gifts like cutlery, cheese boards (I have one of these), candlesticks etc. The company was ... founded in Copenhagen in 1904 and the design ethos is all about simplicity and flowing lines (which fits in with the other items I have from them).
The wine cooler is certainly a stylish thing. Smooth, shiny stainless steel makes it look very sophisticated. It has a really cool curve at the top, making it look elegant. The cooler works just with double layered steel keeping the wine cool, you don't plug it in or anything. It feels cool to the touch even when at room temperature. I have only put wine from the fridge in here, and it certainly maintains the temperature. I have put a room temperature bottle in, and it doesn't cool that, it just keeps already cold bottles chilled.
The cooler is 21cm high with an external circumference of 33cm. This leaves plenty of room, even for a fat bottle of sparking stuff - the widest bottle I have is 28cm in circumference, that fits in snugly. When taking a bottle out it makes a really loud annoying clunk, and a lasting ringing sound if you knock it against the side of the cooler. I guess this is a show of the quality, but it makes me wince. The cooler is sturdy and I think if it got knocked it wouldn't tip over, like a half empty bottle of wine would. It would have to be a hell of a crash against the table to knock it I think. It weighs 850g on its own.
The wine cooler came in a simple, quality cardboard box with a little booklet giving cleaning instructions. It is recommended to use warm soapy water and a soft brush, but I have found a wipe over with a damp cloth and a buff with a clean tea towel keeps it clean. I have more trouble with finger marks than wine drops.
I'd love to tell you of all the complements I have received when using this but to be honest I have only used it twice so far, and one time was with colleagues who had the exact same cooler. The cooler is functional as well as stylish but not that eye-catching and your guests are unlikely to be blown away by it.
Now for the horrible bit: It sells for £100. I kid you not - that it the price on both the Georg Jensen website and John Lewis. I bought my parents a nice stainless steel wine cooler from John Lewis a few years ago; it cost me about a tenner, so there is no real need to spend this sort of money. My parents' cooler keeps wine cool and whilst not so shaped or fancy is aesthetically acceptable. They are plenty of stylish wine coolers on the market; you don't have to spend this sort of money if you don't want to. Read the complete review |

Lec DF50
by anwar7
I have a retro style Smeg fridge/freezer that I love! However although it looks wonderful in my eyes, it doesn't hold as much as I would like. I really enjoy white wine and it has to be well chilled! When I received a Lec drinks cooler as a present a few Christmases ago I was thrilled! To be honest it was not something I would have ever ... bought for myself, but once installed I realise how useful it is!
The Lec DF 50 model has a 50 litre capacity and can hold 5 bottles of wine and 12 cans of beer or soft drinks. It looks stylish in black and silver with its long bar handle at the front of the glass door. The door can be hinged to open either from the right or left. It is quite compact measuring 47.2 cm in width x 49.2 cm in height and 45 cm in depth. The fridge is designed to stand on a counter top. I keep mine in my utility room as I don't have much space on my kitchen worktops.
The top shelf is designed for wine bottles and has a shaped chrome bottle rack allowing bottles to lie flat as they should. This allows bottles with corks to keep moist and stop the cork from drying out- not that my wine is ever left long enough for that to happen! The second and third shelves are also chrome and designed for cans. If you prefer you can store up to 10 bottles of wine without the cans.
The fridge has a dial to adjust the temperature with setting including normal, minimum, maximum and off. I usually keep the temperature at normal and find it chills my wine perfectly. The temperature range is from 5- 18 degrees. It does take about 20 minutes to cool a bottle of wine to the correct temperature. If I forget to put any wine in the fridge, I reduce the temperature setting to minimum.
The cord is a good length at 70 cm. The cooling system is at the back of the fridge so you do need to leave a gap between the fridge and the wall behind to ensure air can circulate. The fridge has 4 rubber feet that can be adjusted so the fridge is stable on any surface.
There is an instruction booklet and 3 year warranty included.
My thoughts.

I think this is a really useful addition to my kitchen (well utility room!).It is quite compact, looks stylish and can hold a decent number of bottles and cans. I like the bottle rack at the top and find the middle and lower shelves good for cans of beer and soft drinks. The fridge was brilliant when we had friends for BBQ in the summer, insuring there was a supply of cool drinks for everyone.
The fridge is easy to keep clean and only requires a quick wipe. The glass door allows you to see quickly how many drinks are inside.
On the negative side this is quite heavy at 100 kg so would be difficult to move around, especially if it was full! It is also quite expensive costing around £140.
Finally...
Thought it would be fun to include some Halloween drinks ideas! The fridge will be used to cool the juice used!
Creepy cocktail.

1 oz of vodka
1 dash of grenadine.
Chilled orange juice.
Pour vodka and grenadine into tall glass and fill with the chilled orange juice. Stir together and add ice. Looks revolting but taste lovely! The grenadine makes this a ghoulish blood red colour.
Axe murderer.
************
1 oz amaretto.
1 oz of gin.
1oz Bacardi
1oz southern comfort.
1 oz vodka.
Splash chilled 7 up.
½ oz of grenadine
chilled pineapple juice.
Add all the alcohol to a tall glass and then fill up with the chilled pineapple juice. The grenadine gives the drink its pink/red colour making it look like blood! Read the complete review |

Siemens KF18WA42

Looking for a better way to store my wine, I decided to purchase this wine cooler. Upon deciding between a few different models, I went with the Siemens KF18WA42.
The cooler is a great size. It measures 84 cm tall and 54cm wide and tall. It has 6 shelves, which gives me plenty of storage for all of my wines. Like the picture, ... I usually keep my bottom shelf clear to store any appetizers I might serve with the wine at a party. If you're using this for personal use, it's good for extra wine storage. In total, it can fit 32 bottles of wine.
A big selling point for me was that this cooler was rated with an A for energy effiency, and is rated to use 150kwh per year. This unit is also very quiet, and does not make any loud cooling noises.
Overall, this unit has worked very well for me over the past few months and I am very happy with my purcahse. If you're looking for a good sized cooler to chill your wine, I would suggest this item. Read the complete review |
