“ Massive 27 cubic feet side-by-side American fridge-freezer with fitted automatic ice-maker, through-the-door ice and water dispenser, glass shelves in the fridge, a crisper drawer with humidity control and wine rack are included in the numerous accessorie „
I purchased this fridge freezer with black doors at the cost of £899 from an independent retailer on the high stret. The Black finish looks fantastic although it is a little difficult to keep smear free. You can choose either crushed or cubed ice from
the indoor ice maker, it wasnt something we thought we would use much but it turned out to be a real bonus especially in the summer and at christmas time. The shelf space in the fridge was good but could have done with more room in the freezer.
The appliance worked well for around 9 months when it started to tick very loudly. The retailer sent an engineer out who repaired the problem and again the appliance worked well until a few months ago when the ticking started again. Unfortunatly the retailer was no longer trading so I contacted Whirlpool. Whirlpool have basically told me Tough you should have bought an extended warranty. 900 quid for a fridge freezer to last 2 years is outragous and I will never ever buy another Whirlpool product.
In January I Purchased a Whirlpool Amercian Style Fridge Freezer as part of a new kitchen I was having fitted. When It was delivered (I was at work, the kitchen fitter took delivery) The Whirlpool delivery chaps pushed the new fridge against the wall, and unfortunately a storage heater. The next day the kitchen fitter said he was unable to connect up the fridge to the water supply, as the plastic tube on the back of the fridge had melted into two pieces. I had also noticed that there appeared to be two shelves missing from the inside of the fridge, and fundamentally, the fridge doors were silver, which looked fine, except I had ordered black ones ! This is where the nightmare began. Whirlpool have the usual call centre setup, where you never speak to the same person twice, wait on hold for ages etc etc. Having managed to speak to someone in customer services, I was informed that they couldnt deal with my query because the fridge was broken on delivery - I needed to speak to the sales dept. I spoke to the sales dept, who helpfully informed me that, actually, I needed to speak to the service department, who would send out an engineer. The service department said they couldnt send an engineer out until they had authorisation from the sales department, which they would not request on my behalf, so I rang the sales department, who again wouldnt help. In the end I managed to convince someone (I cant remember which department, as I was as confused as you are by then!) to send out an engineer. Two weeks into February the engineer turned up to assess what I needed (not actually fix anything, but just have a look) He informed me this was a new product, and they didnt have any part numbers on the computer yet for it, so although he new which bits I needed (Two shelves, a plastic pipe, and some black doors) he couldnt order them. I was told it would take a couple of weeks for the computer side of things to be sorted, then he would order the
parts and ring me when they had arrived to arrange to fit them. He did however warn me that getting replacement doors would be unlikely - he mentioned not holding my breath, as in his experience they normally arrived damaged ! Great I thought, but I guess I just wait and see. Three weeks later he rang and said the pipe and shelves had arrived, which he duly came and fitted, he told me the doors were on order and would come direct to me, I was then to ring him and he would come and fit them. Over the next couple of weeks speaking to various customer service people, I found out it would take approx 4 weeks for the doors to arrive - they had to come from abroad, I assume, by foot. When they finally arrived I rang the engineer and he came round to fit them, as he was leaving I noticed the inserts in the doors (Sheets of plastic which slide in to create the coloured part) were not plush with the front of the fridge, having pressed them i could make them move about, leaving a gap between the edge of the doors and the plastic front. The engineer was sat on the drive in his car still, so I ran out and asked him about the gap. He told me that the packing required to push the doors plush was not included, and could not be ordered ! I should contact customer services... After much shouting at customer services I managed to get them to agree to send out a new fridge freezer (black) and to swap the doors from it onto my appliance (this was easier than taking the whole fridge freezer out) Over the next few weeks two fridges were delivered (both silver) and on the third attempt, nobody turned up at all. At the time of writing June 3rd, Ive been waiting over 5 months, I have asked to speak to the customer services manager - who has not once returned my call, I did once managed to speak to a customer service supervisor, but she doesnt return the messages I leave her either. Ive no idea when (if ever) the doors will be sorted
. The only thing I can say with any certainty, is that as long as I live, I will never buy another product from Whirlpool.
