Blossom Hill White Zinfandel
Advantages: Light, fruity flavour
Disadvantages: Too sweet without ice
I am a wine drinker and although I will quite happily have a glass of red with a meal there is nothing like sharing a bottle of rosť with a few of my close friends for a girl's evening. Loaded with lots of ice a glass of rosť is not only enjoyable but quite refreshing. For me choosing a nice rose is important a they can of course vary. However, one that I tend to buy majority of the time is the Blossom Hill White Zinfandel.
Don't be fooled by it's name having the word 'white' in as it is a lovely rosť wine made and produced by one of the UK's favourite wine producers, Blossom Hill. The White Zinfandel is part of their Wine Makers Reserve Single Grape Wines which means that they only use one variety of grape and the White Zinfandel is amongst this collection of wines. The use single grapes to give the fullest flavour possible making it enjoyable to the drinker.
The White Zinfandel is classed as a medium rosť and is made from a red grape grown in California (one of the leading wine producers and producing about 90% of all America's wine). A red grape is used to create a robust wine which is typically noted for giving red berry flavours but like a lot of grape varieties the riper the grapes the heavier the taste.
White Zinfandel is of course a rosť which is incredibly popular and has notes of sweet ripe strawberries and watermelon. Making it an incredibly fruity yet sweet wine and accordingly to Blossom Hill you need it ice cold to get the true flavour.
The wine itself comes in a tall, slender clear glass bottle - you know the type most wines come in a similar sort of bottle! The White Zinfandel has a gold screw top cap and features an image of a rather large flower on the bottle itself and has the label around the bottle featuring the product name and Blossom Hill logo. On the back there is information about the wine, such as the taste it offers, what it goes well with etc.
The favourite part...drinking it! Despite being a wine drinker I am by no means an expert. Some people would see that a bottle of wine costs £4 and think instantly its cheap and rubbish and then there is me someone who will quite happily drink a variety of wine and as long as I like the taste then I'm perfectly happy regardless of the price.
I find the White Zinfandel a lovely, delicate wine to drink as long as it is in a glass with plenty of ice. I find that at room temperature it can be a bit too sweet for my liking, almost a bit overly sickly which is a shame but team it with a few ice cubes and having had the bottle in the fridge to completely chill the flavour of the wine lightens up quite a lot and becomes a lot softer whilst still remaining the sweetness of the strawberries.
The smell of the wine is incredibly fragrant and you do get the sweet hues of melon and strawberries which is lovely and you can clearly define the fruits. The wine is one that is easily drunk as it isn't overly strong and has a very delicate taste to it, making it an ideal wine to share with a few friends without the need or wanting to get drunk.
A lovely, fragrant wine which is easy to drink and definitely does not have a potent wine taste. An easy to drink wine which is perfect served over plenty of ice. Definitely a wine that I re-buy at every opportunity and recommend it to those that want a delicate yet fruity wine to share with friends (or I guess all to yourself!).
