Advantages: lovely dark colour and great smooth taste
Disadvantages: none
I normally drink white wine, namely Sauvignon blanc. However I do enjoy the odd glass of red especially with cheese. I first discovered Rioja campo Viejo a few years ago when it was on offer and have been buying it ever since.
Rioja Campo Viejo comes from the Ebro valley region in Spain. It is made from the tempranillo grape and matured for over a year. The wine comes in a dark bottle with yellow label. It has a cork closure. The wine is described as medium bodied . The makers say this wine will give you the taste of plums, cherries with hints of strawberries and a vanilla oak sweetness. I can never really identify the fruits in wine and cant say I can distinguish any particular fruit flavour in this wine! However I will say it tastes very smooth and is easy to drink! This wine is not too heavy and has no acidic after taste as with some wines. I love the cherry red colour of this wine and really enjoy a glass in front of the fire on a cold winters evening!
Red wine should be drunk at room temperature to ensure you enjoy it at its best. This wine goes really well with cheese and red meat. I have bought several bottles to enjoy over the Christmas period . It is so easy to drink that you need to be aware that at 13.5% alcohol, this wine is no lightweight! It is widely available and is on offer in several supermarkets at present including Asda and Morrison's ,for £5 a bottle.
