Freixenet, pronounced 'fresh-eh-net' is one of the leading producer's of cava, Spanish sparkling wine primarily from the Catalan region. In the past it was known as Spanish Champagne, but this is no longer allowed under EU law. I was first introduced to this delectable wine many years ago by my ex. The relationship may not have lasted but my love affair with Freixenet still lingers on. I tried Freixenet Cordon Negro for the first time about a year ago and was very pleasantly surprised! This is a very delicate, fruity and fresh drink which I now use for every special occasion and sometimes just for the hell of it!! If you look at the other cava's around the same price i think it really stands out as better quality, Freixenet have kept the wine consistent and top quality. I have recently tried the other cava’s and for anyone who like the Cordon Negro then the Freixenet Rosado and the Carta Nevada are definitely worth a sample. And who can resist that little black ... I always believe in researching a product properly before writing a review and in order to do this one justice, I had to open a few bottles... I had intended writing this a week ago but spent a little more time than was probably necessary on the tasting process….all in the name of research. Ever since I first tasted champagne I have loved it but, not being able to afford it very often I set about finding a substitute…so much testing had to be done.
