I first came across Lambrini Original when I was a student, at that time you could buy a bottle for around £1.09 at my local shop. Today a 75cl bottle will set you back around £2.50 and it is widely available in most supermarkets. The wine is actually made from pear and is Perry, it is low in alcohol at just 7.5%, and it is marketed as a medium sweet Perry that is slightly sparkling.
Lambrini comes in a glass bottle and can be purchased in 75cl and 1.5 litre bottles; it has a screw top lid. Lambrini can also be purchased in the following flavours, which I have not tried as they were not invented when I was a student; Cherry, Lambrini Light (lower in calories), Peach, Rose, Apple and Black Currant, Bubbly and Pink Bubbly, so their range is quite extensive.
The Perry is a pale, apple juice looking liquid, that is slightly fizzy, so when poured you get a bubble head that quickly dissipates, it does not remain fizzy for along. As far as I recall a bottle never lasted long enough in our house to go flat as there were 5 of us, so a 1.5 litre bottle did not go very far on an evening.
Lambrini original tastes sweet and not overly fizzy, it is very easy to drink, more like pear lemonade. It cannot be compared to a decent bottle of wine, as it is a Perry, it serves it purpose, and as a student I knew nothing about wine and so was happy to drink it, nowadays I see the error of my ways and have developed a more sophisticated palate, being able to distinguish between grape varieties and know what I like to drink and that a glass of wine can be enjoyed, rather than using it as something to get me drunk.
Overall, Lambrini has a pleasant sweet taste that is low in alcohol and is easy to drink, I however, find it too sweet, more like pop and would not recommended it to others.
Summary: Easy to drink, though its not for everyone
