Advantages: not too strong, great taste
Disadvantages: not to everybodys tastes
Having seen a few alcohol themes reviews popping up I decided to share with you a bit about my personal drink of choice, Martini Bianco.
I am not a big drinker as lagers and beers tend to give me a bloated feeling and alcopops are too sugary. Martini Bianco is not as strong as spirits, similar to the strength of wine, with an alcohol level of 15% by volume.
The drink is a vermouth made up of fortified Italian wine, sugar, botanicals and alcohol. It has been around since 1910. It has a unique taste that I haven't found replicated by other brands. It is like a strong wine with a touch of vanilla and a citrus taste, only a small amount is needed so a bottle would last me a long time.
Martini contains 72 calories per 50ml glass, plus whatever mixer you use. I like to drink mine with diet lemonade and ice. It is very commonly drunk with soda and a slice of lemon. There are many ways to drink this and it seems to have become a more trendy and fashionable drink lately. I have seen martini cocktails advertised in many fancy wine bars around.
The bottle has also been modernised from that in the picture above. It is a clear glass bottle with a smaller, simplified label containing it's name, alcohol level, bottle size and a small ingredients section. The colour of Martini is like a pale white wine. The bottle is similar to a vodka bottle.
The best offer on Martini at the moment seems to be in Tesco where you can get 2 x 1 litre bottles for only £15. It is also available in a 70cl sized bottle. There are other types of martini on the market, including a red bottled Rosso and a green bottled extra dry but I don't find any of them as refreshing as the Bianco.
I really like this drink as it has a nice flavour and is easy to drink without being as strong as spirits. I find it quite a refreshing drink and one that appears to be becoming more popular. I would certainly recommend this drink and would encourage people to try a glass in a bar with lemonade or soda. If you like it, grab a bottle and you won't look back. My daughters mix up some strange concoctions with it but I will stick to boring old lemonade for now!
