Make Mine a Rosé!!
Member Name: sparkle1004
Advantages: Beautiful colour, cheap price and a nice taste
Disadvantages: May not be classy enough for some!
As yesterday was Saturday, my friend and I shared a bottle of wine... All in the name of Dooyoo reviews of course!! Our tipple of choice was Mateus Rose.
The drink dates back to 1942 in Portugal where the drink was created at the end of World War 2. It is easily spotted thanks to its unusually shaped bottle which is actually fashioned on the flask that the soldiers carried during World War 1. The drink also stands out for it's lovely pink colour and it's sold more than a billion bottles since its creation. The drink now comes in three other varieties in additional to the original - Mateus Rose Shiraz, Mateus Sparkling Rose and Mateus Sparkling Demi Sec.
Packaging and Price
This drink was easy to spot on the supermarket shelf because of its very unusual shape. The glass bottle is shaped exactly like a flask which is wide but thin circular bottle half and its tall thin neck. It has a pale pink picture of two house by a river although I've not sure why and the lid is covered with pale pink foil. The drink will cost you around £4 so it's quite cheap and it can be bought from alcohol shops, large supermarkets and also from a variety of online websites.
About the drink
The drink is described as being young, light and fresh, and it is advertised as being the perfect wine to liven up any occasion. It is created using sun ripened grapes from Portugal which have been slowly fermented to give the wine the pretty colour. It is said to go with light meals which include salads, fish and white meat. The drink has an alcohol percentage of 11%.
The wine is a rosé wine and so it's a good compromise for two people who like red and white. It has a beautiful bright colour that is pinker than most rosé wines that I have drunk. The wine smells fruity but it still has that alcohol roughness to it so you are very aware that you are drinking wine. Nevertheless, the wine is light and pleasant to drink and it tastes tangy and fruity. It is slightly sparkling and bubbly, which makes it more fun to drink.
I have to be honest, I am no wine connoisseur and I don't understand the whole wine going nicely with food thing. We this wine with a pack of Salt & Vinegar Squares and it went down just lovely, haha! We polished off the bottle between us and it left us feeling merry and happy. There was no headache or hangover this morning which is always a bonus in my opinion as I do seem to feel sick after consuming alcohol.
All in all, this is a fun and feminine wine which smells and tastes fruity, and has some bubbles thrown in for good measure. The bottle looks attractive, the colour is eye catching and the price makes this one a great wine for enjoying on a girl's night in. I would happily repurchase this wine.
