These are great! I've been using them for frozen paths/ pavements in North Highlands, Scotland. Feet do not slip at all even on sheet ice. Really light, quick and easy to fit. FantasticHighly recommended
Kahtoola Microspikes - £45 from Amazon
I am really scared of going out in the snow when the ground has turned icy, but having a dog means that I need to walk her twice a day, regardless of the conditions. I have tried some other shoe grips, but then someone recommended these to me and I bought myself a pair just before the last lot of snow in December.
I honestly can't recommend them highly enough and wish that everyone could have a pair. Firstly, despite looking like hard core climbing gear (which I guess they are at some basic level), they are super easy to put on and feel very secure on your feet.
Secondly, and best of all, I have never felt safer on the ice. The little spikes properly grip into the ice and give you a sure foothold meaning you can walk at normal speed, even with a bouncing labrador on the end of its lead. The great thing too is that they manage on all types of terrain, so you can use them to walk on the pavements, but they are also fantastic on fields and in the woods. I never once felt that I was going to fall and it made the whole experience of going outside in those conditions really exciting. I even found myself looking for icy patches to walk over as it was do much fun and I felt so safe.
I would highly recommend them for people who are scared of walking on the ice, dog walkers and runners who don't want to stop training in the snow. And, although they are at the top end of the range in terms of price (I know there are other show grips out there that are half the price), I have tried one of these and the quality of the Microspikes are far superior and well worth the additional cost.
I wouldn't be without these now and am looking forward to the next lot of snow.
