This is my second bluetooth dongle, as the ASUS one i bought for my desktop was so good i needed another for my laptop. I use it for transferring files from my phone, and also now with my GPS bluetooth module. It can also be used to control your computer with your phone and to use your mobiles internet connection on a computer.
In comparison, they are both quoted as having a 10m range, but realistically this varies for the task it is performing. Transferring files requires a perfect link, so a weak signal means the entire file fails to send if it drops for a fraction of a second. Receiving GPS can live with an intermittent signal, and so can easily cope with being in a different room. Realistically, you wont need great range on it, and this will just be used to save time fiddling with cables, and for this is does a perfect job.
As far as i can tell, using the dongle doesn't have an effect on laptop battery life. I have used this on both windows and ubuntu, and both required no drivers and were extremely simple to use. I would really really strongly advise buying a copy of blue soleil if you are running windows, as it seems to make everything i do much more reliable, and also opens up extra features such as mobile internet. These can be done without the software, but would require a lot of faffing. On ubuntu, the built in bluetooth manager sorts all this out for you, and so no additional software is required.
I would strongly recommend this product, as it is a big time saver, and is very small. It has no real advantages or disadvantages over its competitors, however belkin is a big name, so is reassuring if you ever do need a support service. It is small, cheap and extremely useful, a must have product.
This is one compact and handy little device.
Bluetooth is one of the most common technologies today for mobile devices to transmit data especially for mobile phones and multimedia head phones. Bluetooth has a 10 meter radius so it is enough to transmit data in your home no matter what room you are in.
These bluetooth devices are so small in size and does not require a long time to install. The benefits of a small device is that it can be stored anywhere or even in your pocket when you need it and wont take up any room when you are working.
Its main purpose is for laptops and can also be used to connect desktops together to communicate. It allows you connect your mobile phones to your laptop and make phone calls or transfer data between devices.
I have tested this product on Windows 7 and XP and all you have to do is just plug it into the usb port and your set. XP requires a few configurations to get it going.
Overall its performance is excellent with bluetooth 2.0 and its 10m range is pretty reasonable. very compact device that you can take anywhere. very affordable.
Bluetooth is one of those technologies that you kind of use but not very often but you don't want a huge dongle sticking out of the side taking up space and that can be snapped off and broken rather easily, that's where this little beauty comes in.
The small size of this device means that you barely notice it and it is not at risk of being snapped off and damaging one of your USB ports. Suitably designed for use with laptops it is ideal for connecting your PDA/Smartphone to your computer wirelessly or for using a Bluetooth headset for VOIP calls or even for Bluetooth mice, keyboards and presenters. Using Windows 7 it requires no real setup, just plug in and let Windows 7 do the rest, I have not install experience using the CD provided so it may be a pain under Vista or XP. It does have an annoying and distracting small blue LED on top which you catch out the corner of your eye if your USB ports are on the sides of your laptop.
Overall though given its small size and great performance at close range (10m) this is an ideal device from mobile devices to input devices.
