Advantages: None

Disadvantages: Gets hot, takes up space, wastes money!

I have recently brought a laptop, so I therefor thought it would be a good idea to buy a router. This would mean I would be able to connect to the internet on my laptop through a wireless connection, a genius idea, right? Well if it works then yeah.

I brought this bit of kit from Amazon for £49.99, this was the cheapest I could find it online, and it seemed a reasonably good deal. Amazon, on there part were efficient, the package arrived on free delivery within a couple of days from when I ordered it.

When it arrived, the package came with the router, a microfilter, (although I already have one of those anyway), all the wires you need to connect it, as well as 1 wire to connect it to the Ethernet port on your pc. Also some instructions and a cd. Fair enough, I thought, this looks good enough.

I inserted the cd which gave instructions on how to set up the router and connect it to the pc, this was all very straight forward. However, once connected, it seemed virtually impossible to get it working, I didn't know what settings I needed it at, this was not just a simple plug and play!

Fortunatly I have a friend who is good with computers and he managed to set it up, but this was after 4 hours! So not the easiest bit of kit to set up! From then on, no complaints....for a week! The router was working fine, although there were problems with messenger running at startup, this would sometimes freeze or crash completely.

A week later I had some problems, after turning it off for the night, the next day it simply wouldn't connect to the internet, or give a wireless signal. The only lights that lit up were power and the ethernet port. I tried resetting it, although this appeared to do nothing, I also tried switching it on and off a couple of times, this didn't work either.

I have since sent this back to Amazon for a refund, not only was this hard to set up, but it seemed faulty from the moment I got it. I would not recommend this to anyone, whatever you do, buy something else, even if it means paying more, at least it will work!

Summary: Keep the £50 and pay a bit extra for something that works!
