Advantages: Wireless, Easy to setup, Well-built, Slots into Xbox securely, Looks good and blends in with xbox
Disadvantages: Need certain internet speed for it to work
A while ago when setting up Xbox Live, I bought an Ethernet cable to do the job and connect to the router. However, it wasn't even long enough, and it looked horrible too, to have a long wire across the floor. I decided that a good investment that my brother told me about would be the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter.
It is a small grey box with a few features on it to point out. It has a Green LED to the left on one side with the Xbox 360 logo beside it. There is an antenna on the top, which is used to receive signal from your wireless router, which will send it out via its antenna. It only works with wireless routers, and that is the whole idea of the product - it's all wireless.
A dark grey and small wire comes out the box ironically as it is meant to be wireless. However, this is a very small wire, perfect length to just slot into the USB port on the back of the Xbox 360 console. There is a tab to one side, so it can clip on securely to the back of the Xbox 360, keeping it compact and out of the way. It is very good that it clips onto the back of the console itself, as it is out of view from the front and also attached securely to the console, so it's not just lying at the back.
The antenna can be moved, but doesn't just flop back down when you put it up. You can position it in an upright position, and after configuring your connection, you can connect wireless to the router to play Xbox Live online. You must have high-speed internet connection for this to work (cable or DSL). Attaching the device to your console is easy. There are two slots on the back, where you plug the adapter into. Make sure it has clipped in, and unplug any Ethernet cable in the slot below. Above this slot, the USB socket is there, so plug the USB into here from the adapter. Face the antenna upwards for best connection, but be careful not to break it as it only swivels in one direction.
It is easy to first connect to the internet in four simple steps:
1. Turn on your console and router
2. Attach the adapter to your console, plugging in the USB
3. Go to System on the Dashboard and enter network settings
4. When these settings are correct, your console will be automatically connected to the internet. You can run a connection test or troubleshoot to see if anything's wrong, but normally it works first time.
It is a very expensive product at £59.98 on amazon.co.uk and similar prices on eBay where I bought mine and shops will sell for the RRP of £59.99. However, it is of great quality and works really well. It connects easily and saves you time not having to nail a wire around the edges of the room to connect the Ethernet cable to the Xbox 360. It is very neat, of good quality, easily connects and works well with a good connection when online. It only works with certain speed internet connections, so check www.xbox.com to see if your router is ok for the job.
