Penguins of Madagascar - Dr. Blowhole Returns Again (Xbox 360)
by Seven17
I bought this game for the easy 1000g, the gamerscore takes just a couple days (sometimes even a day for the more experienced players) and you get yourself a a total of 44 achievements to add to your profile. If you bought this game for the gamerscore too then great, a good game, not that stressful and does not require much kinect ... activity. But if you bought this for kids, or for anyone who knows what makes a good xbox game, then no, it's not recommended. Here's why:
For a kick off the graphics. At the end of the final level you have to smash bulbs, but you can clearly see they are all smashed then when the doors go up,, guess what? There are fixed and you have to smash them all over again. Highly unbelievable. The mouth's of the penguins have very little movement when they talk and the underlayer of the world (the sky) can be seen through rocks when you brush up close to them. Looking through all the textures and layers of solid objects into an endless pit of sky.
The sound is goo though, they use all the real voices from the Madagascar movies and they sound just as good in the video game as they do in the movie. Some of the things the characters say can be a little pedantic and annoying (Marline for example, and here silly trivia questions) but other than that, quite good. There are two difficulty levels, easy and hard, both of which seem exactly the same to me but one of them scores a 120g achievement and the other, 80g.
The gameplay is simplistic and very easy to follow. It is a bit short with the game taking around two days to complete. There are 12 levels and quite a few hidden lizards to find. The lizards are the hardest part of the game and i would only expect older players to go for these since they can be not only tricky but time consuming.
Another fault i found was the lack of sensitivity on the challenges particularly with the hang time ones, the don't seem to register jumps that well and getting a perfect rating is difficult even for me, a full grown man who plays penguin kinect games haha.
Overall it's not a good game. But then again, why would it be? its designed for children but even they might point out it's very obvious flaws. Gamerscore hunters you will enjoy this, it's easy and simple. Game critics though, don't bother. Read the complete review |

Saints Row 2 Classic (Xbox 360)
by thethatgirl
It's honestly difficult to know where to begin in reviewing Saints Row 2. There are so many excellent aspects of the game I doubt I'll be able to cover them all. The story follows on from where Saints Row left off. You begin by waking up in the hospital wing of Stilwater Penitentiary, where you have been in a coma since the boat ... explosion. A fellow inmate called Carlos helps you to escape and it is during this escape that you learn the controls of the game (which aren't especially complicated). Once you have escaped from prison you have to rescue fellow Saint Johnny Gat from his own trial, and recruit three lieutenants to help run the Saints. After this point the game opens up a lot more and you can access all of the side missions as well as the main story missions. In order to be able to access the main story missions you have to have enough respect, which can be earnt through side missions, driving dangerously, and generally acting like the tough gangster you invariably are. A lot of the fun from SR2 comes from these side missions. My personal favourite is Insurance Fraud where you are tasked with hurting yourself as much as possible by running into trucks and throwing yourself off of buildings.
The main aim of the game is to take over Stilwater, and this is achieved by eliminating the other gangs: The Sons of Samedi, The Ronin and The Brotherhood, each with their own maniac at the helm. SR2 is a really fun game, and the main reason for this is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. It doesn't try to be a hard gangster game, and instead it serves as an excuse to run around in your underwear shooting rockets at police cars (if you so wish). As a result it's a lot of fun to play, and I can imagine that I will play it through again and again in the future. Read the complete review |
