Advantages: good alien campaign, great sound

Disadvantages: verry bad predator campaign, shitty engine that gives poor graphics and controls

Here we have three games, but do they all have the same flaws and strengths?

AVP is split into 3 games a first person shooter that plays and looks like a Psone game, a first person stealth game that plays like Riddick just with poor graphics and last but well maybe least we have the predator campaign that plays like a very old school first person slashing game with shooting elements. Each campaign lasts about 1 or less so you could consider trading it in within the end of the week. Both the predator and the aliens have some really good and gory finishing and sneaking moves.

I would usually talk about the graphics further but they are just BAD on ALL the character campaigns, and the engine looks over 10 maybe 20 years old. However it does have lots of great sound effects for all campaigns that match the movies perfectly.
As a human you are a new recruit working for weyland yutani (sounds familiar it should it's the company that is in the alien series and AVP series both in game and in movie version). You play as a clear slate all you know about your character is that he has no proper field experience to speak of only VR (Virtual Reality) training.
Your career starts of in a research facility that has lost communications (always bad in games of this kind), anyway due to bad weather you had to crash land in the centre of well the helipad (lucky landing) You then get knocked out and get separated from the group. So your first objective get back to the helipad and get in contact with your group.
For the guns and gadgets you have well there are some beauties that will help you out in sticky situations and each gun is meant for certain situations for example the flamethrower is meant to be used in the alien hive when fighting the queen.
Through the marines story you only fight against 5 different enemies and can eventually get really stale, at the beginning you fight the fast, sneaky and deadly in numbers Drone, then you fight the silent and maybe scary facehugger that can kill you in 3 shots or in one if you are not careful on your health and faced on the pad and the queen who doesn't actually fight she sends her own drones and facehuggers to deal with you. You also fight one type of predator which is rather easy to beat as you can see him when he is cloaked and a android army.
As I said earlier the engine looks over 10 years old but it doesn't only look it it feels it in all campaigns you cant lean, take cover or even lye down on the ground to get better accuracy.

The Predator campaign well lets just say don't bother its not fun and you cant do what you really want to do. For example as said the humans and aliens can see past your cloak so no point using it, the humans turrets can spot you from afar and can tear you apart with ease, its completely linear and you spend half the campaign being hunted by the alien which is not what you want especially since in the films it portrays the Predator as being well the predator hunting for its prey but here it feels like you are the prey not the predator.

Now for in my opinion the best part of the single player game the Alien campaign which plays lots like the Chronicles of Riddick so if you like that then you will love this. I wish I could say you started of as a facehugger and you start properly from there but unfortunately I cant because the humans captured you at birth. Due to this you begin properly as a Drone and you must escape captivity with a bunch of your friends and re-join the hive, once done you start the hunt.
Your only weapons are your body so you can pounce, claw or tail stab your foes to death. However you cant just go rushing into fights your AI team mates prove this you and them die with ease even when up agenised a weak grunt equipped with plasma rifle. The sneaking never gets really hard even on the most difficult bits it seems its just at the right difficulty. Now as a alien you have certain benefits like climbing on walls running incredibly fast and the aliens night vision all are simple to use and become really handy in the game, however the wall climbing really cant be used for sneaking unless the walls go really high as humans and there turrets can spot you with ease like the predator cloak useful but incredibly flawed.

I would talk about live but I don't have XBL or PSN but I heard its pretty good fun.

Overall it's a average game with only 2 short campaigns worth playing, very bad graphics with fantastic sound but not worth £40 maybe for £15 you will get your moneys worth.

Summary: a ok game but has a lot more potential
