Batman: Arkham Asylum is a third-person action game casting you as the Dark Knight himself. The title opens with Batman racing back to Arkham Asylum, Gotham's home for the criminally insane, with the Joker in tow. Seems the Clown Prince of Crime broke out a few weeks ago, but Batman was able to track him down and re-apprehend the baddie. However, things are never what they seem with the Joker, so after getting the wiry maniac back into the building -- a building stocked with hundreds of the Joker's goons after a "mysterious" fire at their prison -- Mr. J breaks free with the help of Harley Quinn, takes control of the penitentiary, and releases all the inmates.

With a twist like that, you just know its going to be good, using an array of highly sophisticated "Bat" technology, Batman swings zips blams and kapows his way through Arkhams most insane and most dangerous.

The game itself is great, dont get me wrong dealing out combos and breaking lead pipes over goons is great, its just well, it gets a bit samey after a while, granted theres plenty of other stuff to look out for like the Spirit of Arkham glyphs and Jokers Riddles to keep the brain ticking over, its just the action sequences/boss fights get samey and a bit boring as there seems to be the same repitition of smack with a batarang, wait for the boss to slam into a wall then break into a punch kick combo, dead.

But dont let that put you off, for its flaws its still one of the best titles of 2009, and with the additions of the online gaming with challenge mode additional DLC, this is to be a sure fire winner if they get it right.
