Bejeweled 2 (Xbox 360)
Advantages: Great value for money, very addictive, fun to play.
Disadvantages: Repetitive, hard to master.
Bejeweled 2 Deluxe is a game that is hugely popular, not so much on the Xbox 360 but it has a very strong following from PC gamers. That is not to say that the game isn't just as good on the 360. Whilst it can get repetitive the real rewards come with sticking to the game, as huge scores can be achieved when players learn how to manipulate the grid of jewels to their advantage. The aim is to create rows or columns of three or more same coloured jewels in order to destroy them and allow more to fall into the grid.
There are several modes in the game including a Timed Mode and a Puzzle Mode, not to mention the infamous "Endless Mode", the name of which says it all. As well as the 4 modes that are available as soon as you get the game, there are also an additional 4 modes that are unlockable if the player masters the previous 4. As you can probably tell this game is a bargain at only 800MP (around £6).
The graphics and sound is very good, and whilst obviously not as exceptional as fully fledged Xbox 360 titles they suit the game well.
There are a lot of fun sounds which suit the game well, as well as varying background music dependant on what stage the player is on. The sounds range from explosions created, warp sounds to the small clinks of the jewels. There is even a commentator to tell you when you have just created a huge combo! There is no better sound on Xbox Live Arcade that the mysterious deep voiced man of Bejeweled 2 going " Excellent!" when you get a long combo!!
As for the graphics the game as a whole is colourful, but not over-complicated whilst the backgrounds add extra detail to the gameplay. The game needs simple graphics if I'm honest though, as if it was too complicated it would be hard to find the different combinations of jewels and the different combos that are available.
Overall I highly recommend this game as it has a huge lifespan, as well as being totally addictive and taking a long time to master. It should also be noted to any potential buyer that this game is also available on the "Arcade Unplugged" disk. The only critisism that I have is that the achievements are near impossible!
Summary: Great game overall, definately worth a buy for puzzle game fans.
