“ Manufacturer: Electronic Arts / Genre: Rhythm Music / Release Date: 2007 / Live Arcade Game „
Well this game is a sort of alternate style to Guitar Hero and Rockband, but essential similar. Except you arent playing guitar's.
The game itself involves coloured fireworks being shot from the ground and when reaching your bar, you must press the button on your controller that matches the colour of the firework. The game does have a few interesting game modes, other than the normal game mode, the game features an endurance mode, were the song starts slow, and gradually gets faster and faster until you miss too many fireworks and you run out of health.
The game does feature a 2 player offline mode, but you couldnt really call it split-screen, because it isnt. Each player has their seperate bar however the screens are the same, this results in ALOT of confusion, as the fireworks dont go up at a straight slant, so a firework that launches from say the bottom left might actually end up further on the right side of the screen, and the right hand player would not be expecting this and therefore most likely miss the firework. Therefore the 2 player mode is quite awful, the game designers should have done it properly instead of just splitting the bar in half.
This game comes included in the XBLA compilation disc 1, so get it in that, the compilation disc contains: Pac Man C.E., Boom Boom Rocket, Luxor 2, Uno and Feeding Frenzy. Its well worth the £5 price tag.
Boom Boom Rocket is game for the Xbox 360 which is currently available for 800MP on the Xbox Live Marketplace. It is a game which is similar to dance mat games and the Guitar Hero series with exception that it has classical music and is also orientated towards players using the conventional Xbox 360 controller.
The gameplay consists of the player hitting a button on their controller at the right time in order to set off a firework in the sky, provoking a response from the unseen crowd below as well as increasing your score and the potential combo multiplier which is essential for you to boost your score on the game to new heights. Unlike at the time of release the game is now compatible with guitar controllers as well as dance mats that can be inserted into the front of the console via the USB ports. This opens up some new possibilities for the game however the game has clearly been designed for use with a controller or a dance mat because the colours don't correspond with a guitar and in my experience it is more trouble than it's worth. The game can become a bit frustrating at the higher difficulties however, as I personally find it exceptionally difficult when trying to time my fireworks to the corresponding places given and the beat of the music, which because it is classical I find it quite hard to identify.
The graphics of the game are very pretty and with enough skill and timing the fireworks display which you are playing to create actually looks very attractive, that is of course if you have enough time between timing the buttons to the music correctly to look at the fireworks display! Despite the colourful and constantly changing nature of the background it is still easy to see the directions that scroll up on the screen which is a relief as that is the entire point of the game!
The sounds of the game are also what the game is all about and are therefore very important. All of the music is classical, although it is all fast paced and exciting and a lot of it is recognizable immediately as they are mostly famous pieces. This is essential when playing the game as a lot of the skill required to play the game comes with familiarity with the songs and the rhythm and tempo which they have behind them.
Overall this is a very fun game, which despite not being overly original is a lot of fun to play. The game is very challenging and the achievements aren't the easiest that you will see in an Arcade title, however the game is still a lot of fun to play. There are some games that are available for 400MP that are much better than this game and so I would recommend this game only if you have exhausted some of the more reputed and successful titles that are currently available, a lot of which are available at half the price due to this success.
Boom Boom Rocket is a game available on the Xbox 360 Market place Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points. It features classical music which in a way like the dance mat games you have to press buttons on your controller to match the buttons shown up on screen there is 3 difficulty settings easy medium and hard in the hard setting there is double combinations he recently released extra guitar tracks which made the game last longer there is 5 game modes: Standard game where you match the buttons shown on the screen to the song beats. Endurance game where you have to do the same as standard game but it gets faster and you have to do more than one lap of the song. Practice game which is the same as standard but you can slow the track down by pressing LB or RB. Freestyle where you press either the right trigger or left trigger to blow the rockets up which is good for small children. Visualizer which you play your own songs and it puts on a firework show for you. This game has Xbox Live scoreboards so you can upload your best scores and compare them to the rest of the world!
All in all this is a great game for any age and really addictive and some of the songs get stuck in your head especially if you play Endurance mode and do really good!
