Advantages: New open city landscape

Disadvantages: Hunting down unlocked cars

The usual burnout game is very arcade styled in nature however; Burnout Paradise opens up the fun of crashing, wreckage and mayhem to a city landscape. It can seem somewhat bewildering at first since this game is somewhat different to its predecessors but in essence you can still feel it is a burnout game. Its crashes are spectacular, the wreckage awesome and graphics great.

Advantages

The road rage we are accustomed to seeing in the previous versions is essentially the same. It was great in previous games so I preferred them keeping it similar in this one. Having said that, they have improved road rage by having more cars to target - just means more mayhem, just how I like it.

The stunt events are a great feature, you have to gain points for stunts in a given period of. Slides and boosting give fewer points than shoving you car on a ramp flying through the air.

The online mode is great. You can host games where you choose your own start and end points and set checkpoints. There some great challenges online too like doing a barrel-roll through a hoop. The more players there are the greater the number challenges that are available.

Disadvantages

You can unlock cars after completing an event but to use them you have to find the car in the city and take it down. It can be annoying at times, but the best approach I think is to leave it and take it out when you come across it. Another problem is the inability to restart a race, it can be annoying.

Overall I think this is an excellent game that has taken the usual burnout arcade to an unexpected new level. The sense of speed, carnage and mayhem is exhilarating and incredibly fun. It is certainly one of the best in the series.
