Advantages: This is an incredible car wrecking game.
Disadvantages: Still not that different from the older consoles this was on.
I love my car and I love being able to just drive around when I'm bored as well but there are sure are a lot of stupid rules to make it less fun, eh? Tons of oddly shaped signs telling me what I can and can not do, places that want money just to park there (I called that place Toronto), and highway speed limits nobody actually obeys. I guess all these rules are important for a safe and secure society and all the crap but sometimes you just feel like throwing caution to the wind. The Burnout games actually let you live out you're inter maniac and now it finally debuts on the Xbox 360. This great edition of this super fast arcade racing series is not only the same crazy and fast that won rave reviews on the Playstation2 and original Xbox but it also gets a slight face lift here.
Unlike other lame driving games like 187 Ride or Die, L.A. Rush or any other sad Grand Theft Auto wanna be there is no boring story line here that nobody cares about in Burnout Revenge. Basically you are just here to smash stuff and that's the way I like it.
The big difference now is a lot of cars on the road have less weight to them compared to Burnout 3 and they can now be used as better projectile weapons especially against your opponents. You can also form special rivalries with certain vehicles and you can earn more bonus points if you can get your revenge.
Other improvements to the game includes a play back and record feature so you can show your best crashes over Xbox Live service and you can even buy new cars and tracks if you like (although some may not say that's a very good improvement). Burnout Revenge 360 also took out that annoying start up meter before a Crash Race so you can get right to the action instead.
Just like in Burnout 2 and 3's Crash mode you get the chance to create the biggest and messiest multi-car pile up on a busy town-down intersection. It sounds unbelievable but it is true! The more costly the overall damage is, the more points you get! Much hasn't changed from the last game but the game will show you special vehicles and a small preview of the area so you can plan your attack. You also have better control during a big hit so you can try to do even more carnage after that big hit plus if that wasn't enough you can even blow yourself up when the time is right. Blowing yourself up after you already did all your damage just add more panic to one of these once peaceful area.
Although the PS2 and Xbox versions looked pretty good that way they were, the graphics were still improved for the 360 here. The backgrounds look even better here so you can see further into the background even at the game's insane speeds. When you first play this game looks incredible but it really looks like standard ultra realistic 3D driving title you played a hundred times before, that is until you see some the heated action. One thing you'll notice right away is that the car damage is highly realistic; sparks fly when there is a collision, metal debris shatters all over the place, and the explosions are incredible. There is some slight slowdown when the screen gets too overloaded but those are only rare occasions.
Burnout Revenge isn't the huge leap over the PS2 and Xbox editions that came out 6 months before this. It's still the same old storyless mad driving game where get amazing graphics, some good music, dead on controls, and unique game play so coming in first place isn't always the point.
Burnout Revenge overall rating: 83/100
For 1 to 6 players
Rated (E10+) for Everyone
