Advantages: Amazing graphics. Great story. Fantastic game!
Disadvantages: Short(ish) single player storyline.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the latest game in the extremely popular Call of Duty franchise. It is available for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and for the PC.
The origional Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has sold over 15Million copies and this sequel looks set to smash that record!
Released yesterday (10/11/09), the high-street went crazy slashing their prices for this game trying to get all the customers they can! Sainsbury supermarkets had a big advert campaign saying they were going to sell the game for as little as £26! What a bargain! I was going to pick up my copy of the game at midnight from Game and the game would have cost me £44.99, after seeing the ad on TV I waited till the morning then headed to Sainsburys to save myself some money!
For those of you that don't know, Call of Duty is a FPS (First Person Shooter) game. This means that the game is viewed as though you are looking through the eyes of the soldier that you are controlling. My favourite style of game it has to be said!
I have been waiting for Modern Warfare 2 for quite a while now and it doesn't disappoint at all! What an amazing game!
The story starts off where the first Modern Warfare left off. But 5 years later. I'm not going to give away too much of the story here as I wouldn't want to spoil it for you as I feel this game really needs to be experienced rather than told!
This game takes you on a journey from the icy Russian mountains to the shanty towns of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, to a crowded Moscow Airport & abandoned airfields in Afghanistan! The varying surroundings are amazing and the level of detain in the terrain makes you feel like you are actually there in the heart of the battle! The graphics are second to none. It really is the most lifelike game I've played yet!
Previous Call of Duty games have always felt very linear with only one direction you can go and only one way of completing the level. In Modern Warfare 2 the levels are a lot bigger and there is more to explore. Because of this, the AI has had to become a lot smarter and when you are fighting against the computer components, they really do feel a lot smarter.
The controls are the same as the previous Call of Duty games and they are perfect. I can't think how I'd change them. They just feel so natural and the movement of the characters is so lifelike and believable.
As usual there are a vast array of weapons at your disposal and all of them are portrayed in great detail and realism.
The only slight problem I have found with this game is that the Single Player story line is perhaps a little too short. If I had payed the RRP of £44.99 I would have felt a bit cheated by the price especially if I had no on-line access to play the brilliant multi-player game! I finished the Single Player Story in just under 6 hours in Normal difficulty. The saving grace of this is that this game has so much replay value! I've started it again on the hardest difficulty already!
I haven't really delved into the Multi-player side of the game yet so I'm not going to go on about it. But if it is as great as the Multi-player in Call of Duty: World at War (which I know it will be!!!) I'm sure I'll loose plenty of hours of my life to it! I love playing Call of Duty games on-line as with the addition of a head-set you can communicate with all you team from across the world and suggest tactics and have a really great time playing!
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 really sucks you in! As I've said, the story line is fantastic and as it has some of the great characters from the first game, I really feel a connection to them and at times I found myself shouting at the TV if they were in danger! Haha.
Infinity Ward have really created a masterpiece of a game and I'm sure my girlfriend is going to have a lonely few months ahead as I'm not going to be able to put this down! I'll have to try to ration my Modern Warfare intake so she doesn't feel too abandoned!
This game is tense, frantic, violent and amazing! It really has set the bench mark for the rest of the First Person Shooters out there!
If you like FPS games then this is definitely the game for you! It is an 18 cert game and I really think this is justified as at times it is quite disturbing with the amount of blood and violence in the game. If I was under 18, I'd still want to play it though...
I can't rate this game high enough! I've had it on pause whilst writing this review... better get back too it! What a way to spend a week off work!

Summary: The best game in the Call of Duty series!
